Late arrival, room request

I'm wondering what kind of luck anyone's had getting their requested room when you arrive late. We don't land until 10:00pm at Sanford so we won't make it to WDW until around 11:30. I made two building requests at POR. I know requests are just that...requests and you're never guaranteed. Anyone get their requested room/building???

I called the resort a few days before we were to arrive and made my request. We didn't arrive until 9:30 PM. They said they would try to honor it (which they did) but there was no gurantee.

When we stayed at the Poly in September, I requested the Samoa building, ground floor, volcano pool side (in that order) and we got 2 out of the 3 (view was of the quiet pool, which was just as nice ;)). We had a late flight as well, getting into MCO around 11:15 pm and not checking into the Poly until around 12:30 am by the time we got our luggage, rental car, and made it to the Poly.

We generally make it a point to check in as early in the day as possible for this very reason. The one time we did check-in late--about 1:00 am at Pop--they were still able to honor our request (connecting, non-smoking room).
This was when the resort was pretty new and it was not at all crowded there....I think we were the only ones on our entire floor...not sure if that had anything to do with them still being able to accomodate.

1) You have made a very reasonable and generic request.
2) i would bet you will be fine.

This past October, we check into POR at 9pm. My only request had been a room in the Alligator Bayou section. I was placed in the Mansions and told the AB section was booked for the whole time I was there. As the rooms in AB hold 5 people, families of 5 have priority on that section of the resort. I was so bummed!

We were at the Poly last Sept and I made two longhouse requests. We checked in late (about 12:30am) and they were unable to honor our request. We were put in Rapa Nui (which is as far away from the pools and the GCH as you can get) - I was not very happy that evening (of course I had also been traveling all day).

We decided that we would just see if we could be moved the next day when we returned from the park. But after we got settled in, we found that we actually like the location - it was within walking distance of the TTC and the walk to the pools and GCH were only a few minutes. So - you can't always get what you want - but sometime it works out better anyway! ;)

I almost always arrive late (flying from Denver, long flight, two hour time difference) and I have had pretty good luck lately but have to wonder if it has anything to do with my TA making the requests. Back when I booked on my own, I never got my requests. In any case, I have arrived as late as 1:00 a.m. at CSR, CBR and ASMU and gotten my requests met each time.

I would just be prepared for anything and remember that if you don't get it, to ask if you can be moved the next day if its that important. Sometimes not getting it is the best thing, I asked for Mansions at POR, got AB and loved that section!

I also agreee your request of a certain building(s) only are a lot easier to give on Disney's part than some of the "I need this building, this floor, on this side" etc type requests. I have travelled with family members before and seriously their lists of requests were about as long as my kids Christmas lists.

We always check in really late (between 11:30pm and 2:00am) because of the flights available from our area, delays, etc. We have generally received rooms that honored all or most of our requests.

BTW, we do a split-stay and move to the 2nd resort in the morning or by noon. We haven't noticed any difference in treatment or getting our requests when we check in to the 2nd place than the first.

I think they try to do their best. If the rooms you want are taken (by people already in the middle of their vacation) there is nothing they can do. When they assign rooms to you, I believe it is before you check in. Hopefully, you'll get what you want.

When we went to the AKL last year we stayed our first night in a standard room and the next three in concierge. Upon checking in at 5pm they already had our room assignment for that night and the next seperate reservation for the three nights at concierge. So our room assignment was already done the day prior to checking in. No clue if this is the norm or just what happened this time around! lol

I feel your pain! I had the same thing happen twice on two different trips. I asked for AB (twice) and got the parking lot of Parterre Place (twice). I learned my lesson! I think me and you are the only ones this ever happened to - it seems every other DISer gets AB Building 14 on every trip.

I never once had a single request that I made on my reservation granted. Not once! I think I am zero for five. Never requested anything outrageous. Doesn't matter if I check in early or late, I get what the computer spits out, obviously no human ever viewed the requests. I had a request for a balcony (aka non-ground floor room) at WL denied, and I checked in at 11:30 am! On another trip I requested bunk beds at AKL and didn't get them. On another trip I asked for "anything but Trinidad South" and of course got Trinidad South.

One time I did get my request by politely pleading my case at check-in, and they did switch me to a terrific room. :)

Well, good luck OP! I am always puzzled here on the DIS when it sounds like everyone and their mothers always get all their requests with no problems whatsoever. There are thousands of people checking in on any given day, and obviously a human can't view every single reservation and try to match requests. A lot of it is automated and computerized, and many of us (like me) just get a room that simply matches what you paid for. It is so the the luck of the draw! :confused3 Oh well!
