Our flight gets in just before midnight on Sunday. I know we need to get our luggage. But is DME hard to find from the baggage carousel?
The Disney’s Magical Express Welcome Center is located on the B side on Level 1 (Ground Transportation). Upon exiting the aircraft, take the shuttle (tram) to the main terminal. You will arrive on Level 3. Proceed to the B side and take the elevator or escalator from Level 3 to Level 1 and bypass baggage claim on Level 2 if you do not need to claim your luggage. Please check in at the Disney’s Magical Express Welcome Center inside the terminal and a Disney representative will direct you to your motorcoach transportation.
From Disney:My flight is scheduled to arrive at MCO at 9:45. Can I still go ahead and use the luggage transfer or do I just need to plan on claiming my own luggage. I am perfectly fine getting my luggage the next day.
If you arrive at Orlando International Airport after 10:00 PM, you must collect your luggage at Baggage Claim and bring it with you on the Disney’s Magical Express motorcoach.
From Disney:
If you are in time for your bags to be collected and delivered to your resort, you could have a knock on your resort room door after 2:00 AM. I personally would collect the bags and bring them on the motorcoach. That way, you will have all of your belongings available, when you need them.
It depends on how fast your airline gets the bags unloaded from the cargo hold. It will take you about 10-15 minutes to deplane and get to the baggage carousel or DME. I would estimate anywhere between a 5-15 minute wait for your bags to be available at the carousel. If I were not to claim my bags about how much time would we save? 30 minutes? more or less?

Your wait to board the DME could be anywhere from 5-30 minutes. If you arrive on the B side and decide to pick up your bags, it should only take about 5 minutes to get from baggage claim to DME. If you arrive on the A side, I would allow about 10-12 minutes to get from baggage claim to DME, as you will need to take the elevator back up to Level 3, walk to the opposite side (B), and take the B elevator down to Level 1 and over to DME on the far left end of the terminal.
I think you can request that your bags be held at bell services at your resort, until you request delivery to room or pick up yourselves, so that they don't wake you up with bag delivery.

If your flight is delayed for any reason you may have a problem. Landing that late I would probably not use the yellow tags and pick up my luggage. My flight is scheduled to arrive at MCO at 9:45. I would actually recommend using the yellow tags. Best case, plane lands on time, luggage is pulled and sent to the sorting center, guest can request luggage hold until morning. If your flight is delayed for any reason you may have a problem. Actually, I think worst case is you land ~9:59. Which clock do you look at? Or you land at 9:50, but you're at the jetway at 10:01. Which time is accurate? If you guess wrong, your bags could be going around the beltway until they get picked back up.I would actually recommend using the yellow tags. Not so best case, plane lands late, all luggage including yellow-tagged goes onto the carousel, giest claims luggage and proceeds to DME check-in.
Worst case, luggage gets misdirected. Not so bad given that guest has packed carry on in anticipation of this - and DME will still deliver yellow-tagged luggage when it arrives.
And what happens if you're in the back of the plane and don't see the door open? And how do you know whatever clock you look at is synced with what the DME workers are using? IMO, there are still too many variables. You should be safe using the time the door opens as your decision to go to the carousels and get your bags "after 10."
Or if you see a video screen inside that shows the arrival time before it changes to "ARR" you can use that time to make your desision with.
Everyone on that plane is treated the same way by Magical Express whether first off or last off.
When you go to the carousels, if you do not find your bags then file a claim with the airline before leaving the area. This step does not just happen; you have to proactively make it happen. Do not be the first to talk about Magical Express even if that subject is not talked about. If the subject of ten o'clock should get mentioned you say as a fact (not as an opinion, not as a question, not with any thinking, and not with doubt) that the flight arrived after. And what happens if you're in the back of the plane and don't see the door open? I think you're missing my point. You said "use the time the door opens" for whether it is after 10. What if when the door opens, your watch or other time keeping device says 9:59? It's very possible the clocks DME employees use say 10. So while you may think they should collect your bags, they actually don't.When you go to the carousels, if you do not find your bags then file a claim with the airline before leaving the area. Your airline must give you something in writing, typically the carbon copy of your claim form but possibly a written assertion rebutting your statement that the flight arrived after 10.
Meanwhile if the flight as you saw it arrived before 10 and you do not go to the carousels, if in the rare chance you end up filing a baggage claim at your resort then you again do not be the first to mention ten o'clock but it that is mentioned you say as a fact (not as dada dada) that the flight arrived before.
