Our flight gets in just before midnight on Sunday. I know we need to get our luggage. But is DME hard to find from the baggage carousel?

The Disney’s Magical Express Welcome Center is located on the B side on Level 1 (Ground Transportation). Upon exiting the aircraft, take the shuttle (tram) to the main terminal. You will arrive on Level 3. Proceed to the B side and take the elevator or escalator from Level 3 to Level 1 and bypass baggage claim on Level 2 if you do not need to claim your luggage. Please check in at the Disney’s Magical Express Welcome Center inside the terminal and a Disney representative will direct you to your motorcoach transportation.

Baggage is located on Level 2. After claiming bags, take the elevator to Level 1, if you are on the B side. Boarding for DME will be on the far left end of the terminal, when exiting the elevator. If your bags are claimed on the A side, you will need to take the elevator back up to Level 3, which is the level where your flight arrived. Once on Level 3, go to the opposite end of where you exit the elevator; the far end will be the B side. Take the B side elevator down to Level 1. When exiting the elevator on Level 1, turn left and head to the far end of terminal. You will pass all of the car rental counters and notice signage for DME.

A CM will scan either your MagicBand or DME voucher. The CM will tell you to stand in a particular line, depending on which resort you are staying at. After that, they will handle everything else.

If the driver takes your bags from you and stows them, it is customary to tip, when the bags are handed back to you at your resort. A tip of $1.00-$2.00 per bag is appropriate.

If you are at the Side A carousels, go upstairs (back to level 3). Stand with the windows to the outside at your back. Walk all the way across the terminal (to the other, B, side).

Then (or start here if you were already on the B side)

Go downstairs all the way (to Level 1)

Stand with the windows to the outside at your left. Walk in that direction to find Magical Express.

My flight is scheduled to arrive at MCO at 9:45. Can I still go ahead and use the luggage transfer or do I just need to plan on claiming my own luggage. I am perfectly fine getting my luggage the next day.

From Disney:

If you arrive at Orlando International Airport after 10:00 PM, you must collect your luggage at Baggage Claim and bring it with you on the Disney’s Magical Express motorcoach.

If you are in time for your bags to be collected and delivered to your resort, you could have a knock on your resort room door after 2:00 AM. I personally would collect the bags and bring them on the motorcoach. That way, you will have all of your belongings available, when you need them.

If I were not to claim my bags about how much time would we save? 30 minutes? more or less?

It depends on how fast your airline gets the bags unloaded from the cargo hold. It will take you about 10-15 minutes to deplane and get to the baggage carousel or DME. I would estimate anywhere between a 5-15 minute wait for your bags to be available at the carousel.

Your wait to board the DME could be anywhere from 5-30 minutes. If you arrive on the B side and decide to pick up your bags, it should only take about 5 minutes to get from baggage claim to DME. If you arrive on the A side, I would allow about 10-12 minutes to get from baggage claim to DME, as you will need to take the elevator back up to Level 3, walk to the opposite side (B), and take the B elevator down to Level 1 and over to DME on the far left end of the terminal.

I think you can request that your bags be held at bell services at your resort, until you request delivery to room or pick up yourselves, so that they don't wake you up with bag delivery.

Great information. Thanks!

For whatever reason, baggage claim at MCO seems to take forever for us. 30 minutes is a good estimate, in our experience. Arriving later in the evening could be good or bad for that - perhaps fewer flights to unload, but likely also less staff around to unload too.

We landed at 9:15. Used the yellow tags so DME claimed our bags, Got to our room at POR and called bell services asked them to hold luggage until the morning. We had what we needed for the next today. Got Luggage around 8:30 am.

If your flight is delayed for any reason you may have a problem. Landing that late I would probably not use the yellow tags and pick up my luggage.

I would actually recommend using the yellow tags. Best case, plane lands on time, luggage is pulled and sent to the sorting center, guest can request luggage hold until morning.

Not so best case, plane lands late, all luggage including yellow-tagged goes onto the carousel, giest claims luggage and proceeds to DME check-in.

Worst case, luggage gets misdirected. Not so bad given that guest has packed carry on in anticipation of this - and DME will still deliver yellow-tagged luggage when it arrives.

I arrived around 10:30 PM in March. By the time, I deplaned, stopped in the bathroom, rode the monorail to the main terminal and got to baggage claim, the bags were starting to come out. I was at the carousel maybe 3 minutes total. I was lucky that I was on the B side already, so just down to the DME desk. I got on a bus quickly, but then it took probably another 20 minutes to wait for more people to arrive for the bus.

I would claim your bags and just have them with you. For me, knowing that I have all of my stuff and I can "settle" in the room when I get there is worth the extra few minutes waiting for my bags at the carousel.

Actually, I think worst case is you land ~9:59. Which clock do you look at? Or you land at 9:50, but you're at the jetway at 10:01. Which time is accurate? If you guess wrong, your bags could be going around the beltway until they get picked back up.

You should be safe using the time the door opens as your decision to go to the carousels and get your bags "after 10."

Or if you see a video screen inside that shows the arrival time before it changes to "ARR" you can use that time to make your desision with.

Everyone on that plane is treated the same way by Magical Express whether first off or last off.

And what happens if you're in the back of the plane and don't see the door open? And how do you know whatever clock you look at is synced with what the DME workers are using? IMO, there are still too many variables.

When you go to the carousels, if you do not find your bags then file a claim with the airline before leaving the area. This step does not just happen; you have to proactively make it happen. Do not be the first to talk about Magical Express even if that subject is not talked about. If the subject of ten o'clock should get mentioned you say as a fact (not as an opinion, not as a question, not with any thinking, and not with doubt) that the flight arrived after.

Your airline must give you something in writing, typically the carbon copy of your claim form but possibly a written assertion rebutting your statement that the flight arrived after 10.

Meanwhile if the flight as you saw it arrived before 10 and you do not go to the carousels, if in the rare chance you end up filing a baggage claim at your resort then you again do not be the first to mention ten o'clock but it that is mentioned you say as a fact (not as dada dada) that the flight arrived before.

I think you're missing my point. You said "use the time the door opens" for whether it is after 10. What if when the door opens, your watch or other time keeping device says 9:59? It's very possible the clocks DME employees use say 10. So while you may think they should collect your bags, they actually don't.

If I had any flight SCHEDULED to arrive after 9p (some would say earlier), I would not use the yellow tags. Period. Then there's no doubt what needs to happen.
If my flight is scheduled for earlier, but delayed and I end up getting to the gate after ~9:45p, I would go to the carousel even if I used the yellow tags. If I see my bags, great. If I don't see my bags, but I see no other yellow tagged bags, I would assume DME picked them all up. If I don't see my bags, but I see other yellow tags, I'd submit a missing bag form.
