Late 70's early 80's girls

I actually had a Garbage Pail kids t-shirt- New Wave Dave!
Paper bag waist pants
tight, high- waisted overalls
silk shirts- tucked in the front, hanging out in the back
I wore jelly shoes and ankle boots with my Catholic school uniorm skirt. I also wore leg warmers. Sometimes, with the boots or jelly shoes. What a look!

I did the jellys and leg warmers, but I used to wear jazz shoes with my Catholic school uniform.

Jelly Shoes = instant blisters, sweaty, stinky feet!

I was born in 1975. I remember a lot of that plus :

Stirrup pants with an oversized shirt! I was one of the first in my school to get them, and one of the last to stop wearing them.

Charm bracelets! They were plastic rope type design and you purchased charms for them. I got mine at Hallmark.

Stickers were a big fad too. I would buy small sheets of stickers at Hallmark with my charms.

Fluorescent shirts/sweatshirts. My mom hated them because of the glow it put on your face. But I thought they were awesome!

Those shirts that changed color with heat. I never had one but my best friend did. They always changed color under the armpits. Dang! Can't remember the name of them.

Spandex pants and shorts. I mean 100% spandex. They were so cool!

And I finally got my Swatch watch - many years down the road, as an adult. I still prefer Swatch over most brands. I think it is a childhood stigma. I wanted one so bad, but my parents never got me one.

do you remember the the t-shirt tie? it was plastic and round you put the end of the shirt through the loops? I can't remember what they are called?

I'm not seeing the pic; is it a general one of the Miami Vice-ish ensembles that were so popular? I remember being on vacation in Hawaii when I was about 12-13 (1985-ish) or so and going to Baskin Robbins one night (I think that's where it was)--they had a flavor or combo of flavors that they called Miami Ice. It was pale pink and green ice cream, if I'm remembering correctly.

Ok, I crossed over several of these 'fashion" eras. In middle school it was the Jordashe and Gloria Vanderbilt jeans that looked painted on, in high school it was the ultra preppy look.

I remember the store in the mall that sold only pants and I think we had another one downtown along with the t-shirt iron on store.

Who remembers gunnie sax? Every girl had to have one of those for her school dance.

These were popular when I was in about 9th grade.

Extreme Embarassment Alert:

Mine had Loverboy on the back. I may or may not have tied a bandana around my leg also.

My sister had Shawn Cassidy. I was more of a Parker Stevens fan myself

I had totally forgotten about Gunne Sax until I read Jen Lancaster's book Pretty in Plaid (TOTALLY worth the read if you have a snarky sense of humor and grew up in the '80s)...when I read that name it was like someone slapped me in the face with an ad from Seventeen magazine. Total flashback. I actually SQUEALED.

And what about Forenza and Outback Red?

I remember these. I remember shopping at the Limited ALL the time. Their Chino pants, button up shirts and argyle or cable knit sweaters were all the rage when I was in high school.

What were your favorite perfume/cologne scents?

I purchased a Shalimar knockoff in a high end department store and for the life of me can't remember what it was. I loved that perfume!

I wore Charlie and Love's lemon and Sweet Honesty. There were quite a few that I'd have to look up as their name escapes me.

I found a bottle of Shalimar that I had in a box not too long ago. It has to be 20 years old.

I had this bag too. Mine was blue with green whales.

I don't think my mom cared; if she did, she never said anything about it, at any rate. Mine mostly said stuff like I ♥ DW (this blond skater boy I would have KILLED for back in the day...just saw the other day that he's on Facebook and I went all fluttery all over again ), and I remember coloring in every other space between the treads on the bottoms of them so they looked striped.

ETA: And the mention of Add-a-Bead necklaces reminded me of twister beads. I had SO many of those, and could mix and match various combinations to match any outfit. Lol.

OMG, I had forgotten all about those, but I LOVED them when I was in grade school! I remember having strawberry and bubble gum flavored ones, for sure. I'd totally buy those again for nostalgia's sake if I could find them.

ETA: Can I just say that I LOVE that you can google image search darn near anything anytime you want an instant nostalgia trip?!

I got DD one of these for Christmas because it brought back memories. I think it was from Walgreens.

I had these too.

Other things that were popular when I was in high school were Bass Penny loafers or any Bass shoes. In the summer we had Bass sandals that gave us blisters when we wore them but we still had them. They were like flip-flops (which we called thongs back then) but had about 4 straps that criss-crossed on your foot.

Everyone wore actual Polo shirts (Ralph Lauren) with their collar up and starched stiff. Pink and Green or Purple and Green were all the rage.

Speaking of the Limited, anyone else remember when Bath & Body Works firstr started selling lotion and stuff out of Limited stores? This was back before they were a full-fledged retailer, I guess. And thus began a very, very expensive habit of mine, one that's still raging 20-some years later.

What about feathered clips we wore in our hair or other places. Um, these clips had other uses but we called them an accesory.

I used to have a whole bunch hanging from my rear view mirror. Then someone broke into my car at school and stole them.

Some of the 80's styles are coming back. My DD's friend gave her a zebra belt kind of looked like Brett Michaels from Poison would wear. So I told her Poison called and wanted their belt back. lol

I seem to remember a store called "County Seat" that sold Levi's jeans and cords. Speaking of cords, I remember having a pair of baby blue Levi's cords, which I wore with a baby blue turtleneck and a navy blue sweater.

Once I hit junior high, it was all about the designer jeans, like Jordache and Sasoon and Gloria Vanderbuilt. We also wore fair isle sweaters with turtlenecks, plaid shirts with the collar buttoned up and a ribbon bow (who created that style and what were they thinking??) And I do remember the iron on transfer shirts. I had one that said "One Wild and Crazy Gal"! LOL We used to get the baseball sleeve shirts too, and get our names ironed on the back, or down one sleeve. ETA: Kilts, with knee socks and penny loafers. I had the whole navy blue/green preppy thing going on, with a fair isle sweater and a turtleneck!

And you weren't anybody if you didn't have Nike sneakers. I can remember DYING for a pair of white leather ones with a red swoosh. I was in 6th grade, and my parents wouldn't buy them for me until my Thom McCann's wore out. I did everything in my power to mutilate those suckers! By the time I got my Nikes, EVERYBODY had them.

Tretorns still exist!! Lands End is selling them in their Kid's catalog!! They only have pink and navy blue...but I remember having several pair and one that was plaid! I LOVED my Tretorns!!!

I remember I got some that had red and green ribbon in them, with alternating red and green tri-beads on the end, from a lady who made and sold them at our swim meets. I was awesome.

And if you were feeling a little "dangerous", you wore it on the side! LOL (I have red curly hair...it was really long in the late 80's early 90's...I thought I was the s**t wearing those banana clips! )

Plastic chain necklaces with charms like baby bottles, grapes, other random junk?
Swatch phones revolutionized sleepovers- the base could be lifted up as a second receiver. Prank calls were even better? Speaking of Swatches, wearing several at once? How about phones that looked like lips?

Prank calls!!! Nooooo! When I was about 7 my bff and I thought it woudl be funny to prank call my Mom. From the phone in my room. On the number that was listed on the little strip on said phone. ( remember, you got your phones from the phone company store ) Well, this guy kept answering so we kept giggling and hanging up.

The FBI showed up at my house. Apparently, the guy who had the phone before us, was being watched and was under some protection from them because he was testifying in some trial. They told my Mom she had to come with them, and she said," No, I have an infant son and my daughter is....." I hid under the kitchen table with our dog all night. My parents actually have a picture of me sleeping there. ( I just found this out, they are slowing bringing my childhood back to embarass me )

Her and my Father still find this amusing. I still break out in a cold sweat if I accidentally call the wrong number.

SO, the only downside of the 70's....being ABLE to make prank phone calls!!

We had County Seat stores here, too. And oh, the Nikes....I remember the first pair I ever got. My family was on vacation in MD (accompanying my dad on a business trip) and my parents bought me the white ones with the red swoosh. That afternoon, my whole family went down to the hotel pool to go swimming but I begged off because I didn't want ANYTHING taking time away from wearing my new shoes.
