thinking of traveling to SoCal from NJ to visit the original ! That along with a few other SoCal destinations over a total of 9 days. How does the last week of August sound in terms of crowds? A Wdw vet here who always went during off season and when talking about crowds I have no context to go by since none of us have been to DLR as adults. From what I've read we would want to spend our 5 day tickets during weekdays to avoid the worst crowds.

Probably stay at Hojo or candy cane inn.

Would like anyone's thoughts about this week, crowds, and strategies

Thank you !

I am also a WDW vet planning a first DL trip around the same time so I'm interested too! From what I can gather, weekdays are definitely better since the SoCal AP blackout dates will be lifted by then but some schools will also be in session so I've read crowds are lower in that last week. I'm considering going the week of the 22nd though because Haunted Mansion is historically closed during the last week to apply the holiday overlay.

I think 2016 is going to be impossible to predict, what with the closures for SWL and the continuing 60th celebration. IIRC the 60th 'ends' in September so you may have any number of 'last timers' visiting the park before the 60th offerings start going away. Historically APs and Disney fans often make a final 'pilgrimage' for closing attractions, shows, parades, etc. With the ROA area closed, even if the attendance is 'down' it will feel more crowded since there will be areas blocked off and attractions closed so people will have to be somewhere other than there, iyswim.

The last week in August can also coincide with Labor Day, depending on when you're there. In 2016 it's Monday 9/5. I'd say from 8/27 to 9/5 the weekdays have the 'potential' to be crowded', the weekend (Friday - Monday) of Labor Day WILL be crowded.

Also note that if you go over that labor day weekend time the DL half marathon is over that weekend so the added crowds of runners.
