Last week in May 2007 question...

I have a question for all of you who go in late May. DF and I usually go the last week in April/the first week in May, but this year we're thinking about going down 5/27-6/2. How are the crowds then? Any special events that will raise the attendance up? And is it much hotter than the first week in May? Thanks in advance!

We went for the first time in May (last May). The crowds were not terrible for us until it hit Memorial Day weekend. By that Thursday you could see an increase in crowds. By Monday afternoon you could see the crowd level come down just a bit.
We live in Texas and the kids use to get out of school prior to Memorial Day. I am sure there are other states that follow the same pattern, so you when we went last May you saw more families that were on their summer break.
As for the heat, it was very hot when we were there (5/19-5/30). One day it hit 98 degrees! I can not handle heat well, so I was miserable.
This year we are going in January. The heat was a big factor in our going in January instead of May.

We went in 2004 that week, arrived on Thursday of that week. Crowd levels were great until Thurs/Fri of the following week, so more like June 6-10ish. Then you could definitely tell crowds were arriving. This time we're arriving on Memorial Day and hoping for similiar crowd levels. We'll get a big part of our trip done before the crowds arrive.

One thing you need to know is that Gay Days are the weekend following Memorial Day. This did not at all affect our trip, but MK did close to new arrivals for a bit on that Saturday due to nearing capacity. MK on the Saturday after Memorial Day can get very busy.

With your dates, you will arrive on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. That day will probably be the most crowded. It's also Star Wars Weekend (not sure if this has been announced as happening yet but if it is, it'll be every weekend in Mary). Monday, the levels will go down as people head home from the three day weekend. You will leave on Saturday, the 2nd. That will be Gay Days weekend so you'll miss those crowds. So, the only days that will have increased crowds will be your arrival and departure days.

It is hotter than the first week in May, usually. You can never tell, though. You'd probably pack the same things for those weeks anyway.

Thanks for your responses! We probably won't spend our arrival and departure days at any parks, and if we do, it will only be for a few hours, so those crowds may not affect us too much. All this info definitely helps!
