Are many schools off this week? My kids have no school (LI, NY) and I am considering a trip to WDW, but crowds are an issue for us and I would rather pull them out for a week than go when it is packed.

Any thoughts?

I've never toured during the last week of April. I'll just bump this back to page one for you so that some of our veterans can offer advice.

Long Island, New York .. I just moved from there 4 months ago to Williamsburg, Va. :)

I couldn't take the LIE anymore - not to mention the endless construction of buildings that seem to always be vacated.. :(

Do you have any idea when Patchogue-Medford has off? their website has been down a few months, now :(

We've gone the last week of April a few times. Crowds are managable however it can get pretty crowded on the weekends.

I've heard that a few of the north eastern schools have off that last week. Our schools (central NY..Syracuse) are off the 3rd week.
I will say that we are going the last week of April and resorts are pretty booked up. I also know that there are some threads on April crowds so you may want to do a search and read some of them.
One had a poll about when people were going and the most on the poll were going the last week of April.
That being said, Many people I have talked to have said not to worry too much and that the crowds will not be that bad. We are hoping it won't be too bad since we don't like it real crowded either. :D

We went during the last week in April 2004. The crowds did not seem that bad to me. We were able to do most everything we had planned to do and the wait times we not bad at all. Plus the weather was good too. I would plan to go during that time again.

We're going wityh my niece's band--they are playing at Disney. I think Magic Music Days (plus the flower and Garden festival) are going on at the parks.

I think we are all putting so much thought into crowds...I know I am. My DH and I have decided to take the plunge and just deal with the crowds should they exist. I really don't like crowds and neither does my DH. We have to small DSs, so crowds only add to the confusion. Anyhow, like someone else posted...being a WDW when it is crowded is always better than being anywhere else.

I went last week of april, it was fine, wasnt crowded, going the same week this year, and as far as I know, I think parts of NY,NJ, and NH have vacation last week of april, pretty much everywhere else seems earlier. :boat:

We will be there from 4/22 - 4/30! It is our DS's first trip. He is 4. I hear conflicting opinions about this week. But it seems to me that business has gone up for Disney and the only non crowded months is Jan/Feb. It was between April/Oct for us. My DH and I have been there in OCT so we wanted to go in April for something different. We are driving also and we thought it would be a beautiful drive in the Spring. We are staying at POP! This week is not around any holidays so I don't think it will be unbearable.

Another Long Islander checking in here. I think the southwest flight sell outs are a good indication of who will be there, lots of us nyers. I am thinking of doing american out of laguardia for the same price. I think the weather will be just about perfect. Just do fast pass as much as you can, make any dining priority seatings as soon as you can, plan your days well and take advantage of the extra hours if you are staying on site. A well planned trip will help you make great use of your time at disney. We went last easter. and found the crowds huge to what we are used to in august, but I made all the ps, used fp etc. and we had a great time.

My son and I will be there April 22-30. I plan to use fastpass and take advantage of EMH. I hope that will keep us ahead of the crowds.

Been there a few times the last few days of April and the first week of May. Crowds were not bad at all, nothing compared to early April. As some other posters mentioned it gets a bit busier on the weekends but weekend activity is common throughout the year as FL locals (us included:p) tend to visit during these times.

We have a trip planned for this time this year and are looking forward to it. Good time to go. Hopefully we won't have any heatwaves then this year. That happened 3 yrs ago!! It was in the mid 90s everyday the whole first week of May!! YIPPPEES! But, much more seasonal the following year. ENJOY!

Add us to the 4/22 - 4/30 crowd. My guess it will be busier than previous years for this week but nowhere near what you would have Easter week. I am hoping for something similar to the last couple of weeks in August but with nicer weather. Even if the crowds are higher you need to look at the bright side... you could be home and at work.
