What can I say...I changed schools so many times I managed to miss Australian History and do Ancient History twice :lmao:

I just know that most people who come to Oz go to SYDNEY first ::yes::
Then Queensland for the reef etc.
And Melbourne if they spot it on the map... ;)

The order that TOURISTS come to visit Oz is fine by me. Aside from losing out on tourism $$, I quite like Melbourne the way it is :thumbsup2.

I'm not allowed to say I like Melbourne...it's in the Convict code....or the Pirate code....or the Sydney code??? I'm not sure...
I think I got something implanted when I was born here

And there's where I have the upper hand. I was NOT born here...so I can say that I like mostly every part of Australia and mostly all the state and federal capital cities. I've been to Hobart, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and I live in Melbourne. I've loved them all. Still have Adelaide, Darwin and Alice Springs (although I've been to Uluru) to hit - as far as capitals are concerned.

I cannot speak for the bits of Australia I have yet to visit; but I suspect that I'll be able to find something to love about them too. :upsidedow

Did we scare Skiingfast away with our little provincial feud? :lmao:

Anyway - I have to go get ready to go to my brother's for lunch. Catch you later for today's round 3.

princess::upsidedow is LTP.

HAHA....hope not...

Just get carried away we do :teeth:

Hope you have a good time in spite of the 'issues'

I think he said "I claim this LAND for Britain". To this day, we still have CROWN land, which is held by the British Monarchy as we are still a Commonwealth country.

I once had a consultancy position for the Titles Office in Australia. It was interesting to find out that when an Australian buys property, their title only gives them ownership for the first 30 or 80 cm of land on their property. Underneath the topsoil, it is all owned by the Crown.

If and when Australia decides to become a republic, it will be quite interesting to see what happens to the land titles issued under White Australia settlement. Can you imagine - the land being owned by the republic and they then decide to sell it to the highest bidder???

So England, as I refuse to call it the British Empire as the Englanders do, owns all the gold and bauxite mined there?

I'm curious why Australia still accepts this comprimise of being held as a commonwealth?

I wonder probably because I am a descendent of people who kicked our foreign oppressors out once, and then defened ourselves from them again.

I did have a good Canadian friend in college, and he said it was because England would forcefully defend Canada if need be.
