It may have once (a long, long time in a faraway galaxy) meant "Prisoner of Mother England" to describe the convicts in Australia.....but it is now common(wealth)ly used for the English.

All those Commonwealth countries I mentioned before will affectionately and derogatorily call the English "Poms". Poms or Pommie is now the universal commonwealth country nickname for the English.

Do you think if I called a Brit that, they would know what I mean?

I think I agree with this sentiment. Things only get done in a "good moaning....and if someone wines".

Ooh YES! They may not know what Pom originally meant, though...I have an elephant memory like swiss cheese for these sorts of useless facts.

(elephant swiss cheese memory = When I remember something it is rock solid, when I don't it's like a gaping hole)
