It may have once (a long, long time in a faraway galaxy) meant "Prisoner of Mother England" to describe the convicts in Australia.....but it is now common(wealth)ly used for the English.
All those Commonwealth countries I mentioned before will affectionately and derogatorily call the English "Poms". Poms or Pommie is now the universal commonwealth country nickname for the English.
