LAST Resort Decision Please Help! POR/AKL?

Do what I did.....split your stay I stayed 4 days at POR, and my last 3 days were at AKL./ Loved both.

DH would never go for a split stay. He wants to unpack once and be done with it

I think we made the right choice saving the money.... DH is starting to talk about going again next year....

OK, so POR is it. It's still a great resort, and one of my favorites. I think you'll be happy with your decision. Now, the next decision is where will you stay...the mansions or riverside. I stayed at the riverside because I like the rustic theme. Then there's the french quarter. More decisions

hey wait a minute..... you made your decision before I did!

I'm still trying to talk myself into AKL! The queen beds, the animals, the extra touches, the extra money! Yikes I almost had myself completely convinced until the money thoughts creeped in again. Honestly though, for us $500 won't break us, it just means spending more money. And I hate parting with my money!! I think I may be back to squar one!

Yup, it is definitely POR for us. We have requested the mansions since I am a HUGE fan of Gone With the Wind (I named my dog Katie Scarlett, need I say more?)
Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I am happy with the decision we made to stay put and take the refund. As I said, DH has warmed up a lot to going next December to see the Christmas decs now that I just knocked $400 off this trip (he of course is hoping they do this discount again next year!)

why not a split stay at both. 4 nights POR/3 nights AKL with savannah view. The price will probably come out in between. This way you have the best of both and will not regret not staying at either one. I can never decide either and switching in the middle of your stay is only a big deal if you make it one. Disney is so accomodating, I am sure the will hold your bags at AKL before check in if your room isn't ready and will probably call you on your cell when it is if you ask. This way you get to experience both and it will feel like an even longer vacation.

I just found this thread and we went through the same agony in June. I finally decided to split my stay. But I have to say all four of us liked AKL the best. MY kids are 5 & 7. We did have Savanah view (payed for) but there are public area's for viewing. I list why we loved it.

1. Our first night there we were visiting the souvineer store off the lobby and they were just starting there nightly music parade. Only a few minutes but the kids had a blast they took instruments from the store and marched around the lobby banging and clanging there instruments and got certificates afterwards.
2. Lots of free kids stuff going on, night goggle vision, Cookie decorating, visiting animals, beading, etc.
5. I loved the food.
If you get upgraded your going to love it, make sure you have breakfast on the balcony. Even if you don't get upgraded you will be able to view animals form public viewing areas.

We liked POR but loved AKL. We found POR way too spread out, but it was beautful. Fun pool, great walkways, etc. To buy the refillable mug and to get to restaraunt for refill it took forever, wasn't worth it. But liked the Boatwrights rest and the foodcourt.

And now for the drum roll............... I chose to book AKL!!!! TA made the payment tonight! She said that since all of the rooms are open at AKL during the time I'm visiting she wouldn't be suprised at all if we get an upgrade. Maybe I can get my DS5 to bat his eyes a few times when we check in to help get an upgrade!

One reason I chose AKL over POR is because when DS and DH watched the Disney video they both said they wanted to stay at AKL. Of course I tried to rationalize with them that WL (my first choice) was so much more convienent to MK. Then the money issue set in and we decided POR fit into the budget. Then the discounts came and WL was so much more because of no standard rooms, so it came down to AKL and POR. DS and DH will be so excited! Shhhh I'm keeping it a secret!!! I'm gonna try to keep a tight lip until we get down there!

Honestly, I think you made the right choice. I've stayed at both, and AKL is our second favorite resort onsite (GF is our fave, then AKL, Boardwalk, Beach Club, WL, etc. etc...). I prefer AKL far above POR (not that'd I'd turn down at stay at POR, it's beautiful, but AKL is something really extraordinary to experience) Even if you are not upgraded, there is so much atmosphere and the pool area is fantastic, not to mention the animals. We've stayed at almost all the deluxes and half of the moderates, and AKL is my son's favorite.

Upgrade or not I know we will have a great time and my son will love it! Sounds like there will be plenty of things to keep him busy while where there!
