someone on here told me I could use minolta lenses with my sony a230. So which one of these lenses would be my best choice for zoo and landscape photos? will they all work with my camera?

Konica Minolta 70-210mm f/4.5-5.6 II Silver Zoom Lens for Maxxum Series SLR Cameras (Black)
Quantaray - Tech-10 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 High Speed Auto Focus Zoom for Minolta
100-300mm AF AUTOFOCUS sigma lens FOR MINOLTA MAXXUM KONICA SONY ALPHA CAMERAS

Any Minolta Maxxum or Minolta AF lenses will work with your Sony so the two Minolta's you list will. It sounds like the Quantary also would but I'm not familiar with that lens.

I also sent a PM. :thumbsup2

Yep...any lens that is listed as Minolta Maxxum AF, or sometimes just AF, will work. Pretty much 95% of Minolta AF lenses so you'll rarely go wrong. The only ones to avoid are if they say they are designed to fit 'Vectis' systems - which is a different mount. Otherwise, you're fine. And that goes for older used lenses from third party manufacturers designed for Minolta AF mount as well - Tokina, Cosina, Sigma, Tamron, etc.

The 70-210 is a good, generic lens - basic lens for zoom needs that would do basically fine. The 100-300 might be a little better for specifically wildlife or zoo shooting, with the longer reach - it seems to get decent reviews. Check out a site called www. keh.com - it's a well known used lens place...you can click on the 'lenses' section, and then go down to 'Minolta Auto Focus' and find some decent deals on various used lenses. They sometimes have some hidden gems, and their rating system is quite reliable. Many here have done business with them regularly, and would give you a positive review of the company.

Here's a website that I can say will know it all for the Sony/ Minolta lenses. It is easy to spend hours on this website. www.dyxum.com

It can answer pretty much any question about the A-mount bodies.

I second using dyxum dot com as a resource for looking up user reviews of lenses and equipment, both new and old, for the Sony/Minota systems. It's a little hard to get used to because it can pull up hundreds of lenses but it's good when you set your search parameters for what you're looking for specifically.
