Kathy - I am glad that you are home safe and sound with your family now.

One day at a time and you will be back to your old self again.

Day 8, Thursday, 3/8

I woke up on Thursday morning with my right thumb and index finger completely numb and couldn't control my right hand completely. I would reach for something and it would end up sailing across the room! With what I've gone through with my toes being numb I went into a panic. I had an IV in my right arm, on the inside area of my elbow. I asked the nurse if that could be causing it and she said she didn't see how. So they called a neurologist to come to see me. My work centers around counting money and that's all I could think of...on top of everything else that had happened I was going to end up out of a job, too!!!

Thursday was just a day of trying to get my strength back. I would get up and walk around the room every hour. And I was able to walk down the hall once.

so did your hand get better??? All scary stuff-Like Kelli said glad you're back with your family now!!!

Day 9, Friday, 3/9

The neurologist was there bright and early Friday morning. And, gee, he agreed with me!!! He felt that there was something about the IV that was causing the numbness. He left orders for the IV to be moved and said we would wait a day or two to see if this helped. When the nurse took the IV out you could see where it had been taped really tightly and the skin was actually folded over. By Friday night I was starting to get feeling back in my thumb and index finger!!

Friday just dragged on. Thank God for cell phones. I talked to Allen quite a bit throughout the day. He wanted to come up but I still just couldn't justify it. All that driving for a short visit and then when he got home he'd have to play catch up for all the stuff he needed to be doing at home. We always try to keep things as normal as possible for the boys and although my friend Bev was right there and willing to take the boys as long as needed we just didn't want to upset the boys lives that way. I know a lot of people don't understand that but it's the way that we've always lived. With not having extended family (aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.) we've always just done things on our own.

Day 10, Saturday, 3/10

Okay, now I was starting to get lonely and really missed Allen and the boys. I would be up for a few hours and would feel lonely, but then I would tire out just want to sleep and could have cared less about visitors 'cause all I wanted was to get better.

The urologist had said that as soon as the medical doctor and the pulmonary specialist released me he would release me also. So it was just a matter of waiting.

Did anyone ever hear from Lyn??????
Still nothing:eek: i hope she's ok!!
I tried getting on the DIS all afternoon yesterday! Finally gave up in the evening! But as Kelli said, I RECEIVED PACKAGES YESTERDAY!!

Thank you guys sooooo much. You just have no idea how that made me feel. Along with being sick I have been so down and depressed because I'm just not getting back on my feet the way that I want to. But that just lifted my spirits so much to know that you would all go together and do that for me / us!!!

I took a pic of everything so I can post it! :)

So, thank you so much! Words can't express how much we appreciate it all!!! You guys are the best and I'm so lucky to have you as my friends!

 you know we love ya!!

Day 11, Sunday, 3/11

The pulmonary specialist came in and said that he saw no signs of pneumonia. (Forgot to mention that I had gone for chest x-rays on Saturday.) The nurses had all been talking about the antibiotic that he had put me on for the pneumonia...supposedly it was $300 - $600 a dose! :scared1: But it appeared to have done the trick. The pulmonary specialist released me so now it was up to the medical doctor.

I had talked to the medical doctor on Saturday about being released on Sunday and he thought I would be. I had explained to him (again) about the situation and that it would take Allen about 5 hours to get to the hospital after I was released. He said that he would be making his rounds early on Sunday.

I spent all day Sunday waiting for him to come in. Allen and I were back and forth on the phone about every hour. Plus, Allen had a friend "on call" to come up to VA with him to drive the truck back for us. The doctor finally came in at 3:30!! Gee, and this is what he considers early! He said that I could go home if I wanted. I reminded him of the situation and told him that if I left I would not be getting home until 1 or 2 a.m!!! So we decided that I would get to go home on Monday.

I love Doctors like that:headache: -You kow though(since I have the insiders info) that you can request your Doctor to come to the bedside earlier,or anytime you feel you need to talk to them-just ask your Nurse-just a little FYI that I hope no one ever needs again!!!

Finally!!!!...

Day 12, Monday, 3/12

Of all things - I woke up Monday morning with gout in my left foot! They called in the medical doctor and he, in turn, called an arthritis specialist. I had told the medical doctor what I always took and how fast it worked. He said he hadn't treated gout that much so he wanted to check with someone else first. He came back about half an hour later and said that the arthritis specialist had said that the treatment was exactly what I had said! ;) But in addition to the regular prescription he wanted me to have a "mega dose" before I left the hospital. So, as soon as they got that for me I was going to be able to leave. I called Allen and he and his friend left for VA around 9 a.m.

It worked out well that I was still there because I had the nurse call the urologist to see if he could come in to see me before about 1 p.m. when Allen would be getting there so that he could take the stent out. (One less thing for me to worry about when I got home!) When she called he said that there was no way he could get away from his office (which was only about a 1/2 mile away from the hospital) but if I would come to his office as soon as I was discharged he would see me right away and take it out. Sounded okay to me. Well, about 11 a.m. in walked the urologist. He said that he had gotten a little break and came over to take the stent out for me.

Allen got there around 2. (He got lost. :lmao: ) When he walked into the room neither of us said anything. He just came over to me and hugged me and we both just cried. I still get teary-eyed just thinking about it. I swear he held me for about five minutes without letting go!

It took us 4-1/2 hours to get home. Bev had the boys at her house and when we got home we called her and she brought them home. We have a wooden front porch and I could hear each of them hitting the porch and running to the door! I got such a big hug from each of them. Andrew cried. And I can remember looking at Matthew and saying, "Oh my goodness, look how long your hair has gotten!" He had told me before I left that he wanted to grow his hair long!

It was just so good to finally be home!

You made me cry...... :sad1:

I was wondering how the boys were handling it. You are their Rock especially AJ.

I've only been out once since I got home and that was last Thursday to have blood work done. I was supposed to see my regular doctor this past Tuesday but the office person screwed up getting my records from the hospital and I told them I couldn't see coming in if they didn't have my records to compare to. So they rescheduled that for next Wednesday, 3/28. I go to see my urologist on 4/6. And for now I'm supposed to be going back to work on 4/11. I've put in my paperwork for short-term disability. It isn't much but it will help.

Thursday when Allen took me for the bloodwork I asked him to stop by the store (where I work) so that I could go in (with his help) and say hi. We pulled into the parking lot and two employees were coming out and saw me in the van. They came over and started talking. Then the one ran back in the store and you would have thought someone had gone in and pulled the fire alarm! All of a sudden all these employees started heading out the door! First the store manager, then the co-manager, then all the cashiers! One cashier had actually left a customer standing at her register!! :lmao: (When all the other cashiers, who didn't have customers, started out the door this customer - who is a regular - asked the cashier where everyone was going. She told them and the customer said, "Well, go! And tell her I said hi! I'll wait 'til you get back in here!" Isn't that sweet!)

Yesterday someone from the store brought dinner over for us. And she brought a card that everyone had signed. And in the card was $150 that they had collected to help us out!

You really realize in times like these who your true friends are!

Last Friday I was starting to see the light and ended up getting a cold. I had the sore throat, runny nose and then I started coughing. I'm still coughing but it's a productive cough. It really set me back. By the time I was over the cold Monday I was just starting to feel like I did when I came home from the hospital the Monday before.

Now I'm feeling like I'm finally starting to get better. I think a lot has to do with attitude and you guys all helped with that part!

It's going to be all up-hill from here on out!

That is wonderful.

kathy, now that you're feeling better and reading more, I can show you the pictures I took at the rodeo:rotfl:

I forgot to take my camera when we went Friday to see Dierks Bentley, but I remembered it when we saw Brooks & Dunn.

they walked out to the stage, usually most singers ride in on a pickup truck or a horse and cariage or something, but they walked in. All the time I've gone to the rodeo, i've never seen that b4:rotfl:
