We really need someone to post some good news around here!! :grouphug:

I have some good news! I've remained vertical for the better part of the past 8 hours!!! :cool1:

I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel (and I don't think it's a train this time!)

Okay - I'm finally going to try to post a (short-version) of my fun trip report....

Day One was Thursday, 3/1. I dropped the boys off at the high school and was on the road by 8:45 a.m. on my way to PA. For those of you that may not remember I went up to PA to be with Nana. She was scheduled to have a kidney removed on Friday. Her daughters weren't able to get up there for the surgery so I went 'cause we didn't want her to be alone for the surgery. I was a little over halfway there and started not feeling well and I was running a fever. I had been a little sick on Wednesday and really thought I had food poisoning. I had felt fine Thursday morning, otherwise I never would have left home. I got to Nana's around 7, after having had to stop twice to sleep 'cause I wasn't feeling well.

Day Two, Friday 3/2

We were up early as Nana needed to be at the hospital by 6:30 a.m. I stayed with her all day, except for leaving for about an hour to go back to Nana's to feed her cats (which had to be fed after two but most definintely before four!! :sad2: )

I ran a fever and was weak all day, still had no appetite. I did go through Taco Bell's drive-through and got a taco, which was all I ended up eating Thursday through Sunday!

Nana's surgery went well. She was supposed to have gone into ICU after surgery but because she did so well in surgery she went straight into a regular room. Her daughter got to the hospital around 9 p.m. and I went back to Nana's house when her daughter got there. I felt better and my fever finally broke.

Day Three, Saturday, 3/3

I slept a little late on Saturday morning and felt better when I got up so I was really hoping the worst had passed. I went to the hospital around 1 and visited with Nana most of the afternoon. I went back to her house and took a nap and when I woke up around 6 my fever was back. I went back to the hospital for a short visit and then went back to Nana's. I did some packing and then went to bed.

I got up around 1 a.m. throwing up and I threw up all night. (Even though there was nothing in my stomach.) I knew at that point it was a kidney stone.

The hospital that Nana was at was HORRIBLE so going to the ER there was never an option for me. When Nana had her surgery I had told Allen that no matter what I would never even take our dog there!!!

Day Four, Sunday, 3/4

Well, this was about the worst day....

I packed up the truck and left Nana's. I stopped at the hospital to say goodbye to Nana and was on the road by 9:00 a.m. I was running a fever - I would be sweating and my shirt would be drenched and then I would be shiverring. I knew I was sick but wanted so much to make it back home. I am so lucky that I had so many guardian angels riding with me that day. I only made it 223 miles in 6 to 6-1/2 hours, not a very good average. I had to stop quite often, and I would crawl in the back seat and sleep (or pass out) because of the fever. Finally around 3 I called Allen and told him I didn't think I could go much further. We tried to figure out what to do. I was about 4 to 4-1/2 hours from home. He said he'd come get me; I called my friend 'cause I knew they were at a relative's for dinner and they said they'd meet Allen and I and bring the truck home. We were all calling back and forth trying to figure out what to do. Finally I made the executive decision on my own...I couldn't go any further and I was going to follow the next hospital signs off the interstate!

I got to the ER around 3:30 or 4. About then it all became a blur. I waited in the ER for over 2 hours, though. They must have had 6 ambulances come in while I was waiting! Finally, I got taken back into the ER. All I wanted to do was lay down. My fever was 104! I wouldn't let them give me any drugs that would prohibit me from leaving if it was decided that I just had some sort of infection.

They did bloodwork and then sent me for a CT scan to see if I had a kidney stone. When the blood work came back the doctor came in and said that even if it was a kidney stone I had a massive infection and she wanted to keep me. At that point I said, "bring on the drugs!" ;)

They allowed cell phones in the ER so I was able to keep in contact with Allen.

The results of the CT scan came back showing I had a 6mm kidney stone. I was admitted around 10:00 p.m.
