Grits -
Usually a breakfast item in the US Southern region. Made from the kernel of corn. When corn has been soaked in lye and the casing has been removed it becomes Hominy. The lye is rinsed out very well and the corn is left to harden. Then the swollen hominy is ground up to the texture of tiny pellets. When boiled with water, milk and butter it becomes a cereal similar to cream of wheat. It's used as a side dish for a good old fashioned Southern breakfast

I don't think I've ever been in the house at night alone!!! DH works a lot of night shifts but then at least one of the kids is always here. It would be really strange. No wonder you can't sleep!

Okay...now I'm REALLY lost...'scrapple' :confused3 .....'Goetta' :confused3 :confused3

Scrapple - "Scrapple is a savory mush in which cornmeal and flour, often buckwheat flour, are simmered with pork scraps and trimmings, then formed into a loaf. Small scraps of meat left over from butchering, too small to be used or sold elsewhere, were made into scrapple to avoid waste, a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition"

When it says scraps too small to be used or sold elsewhere it's really saying all the junk that we can't legally put into anything else and still call it a meat product. It's all the leftovers "stuff" when they butcher! (My opinion - yuck!)

Goetta - "Goetta is a regional food found in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the greater Cincinnati metro area including Northern Kentucky. It is primarily composed of ground meat and oats. Pronounced gétt-aa, ged-da or get-uh [(Americanized Pronunciation)], this dish originates from German settlers from Oldenburg, Hannover, and Westphalia who immigrated to the Cincinnati area in the 19th century. The word "Goetta" comes from the Low German word götte. (ö) umlaut pronounced like ur in turn." (I've never tried it but Lissa says it's yummy and it doesn't sound bad!)
