I ended up back at the doctor this a.m. Yesterday my foot was giving me trouble and by the time I got home from work I knew I was in for problems. For the past two years (June of '04 and June of '05) I have had tendonitis in my foot. Yesterday, I felt it starting again. The last two times I tried home remedies for a couple of days and then went to the doctor and by the time I went I was in excruciating pain. (And I have a pretty high pain thresh-hold!) This time I wasn't going to wait so I called my dr. first thing this morning. Naturally, he's out of the office. But the nurse got me an appointment with the other doctor in the same office. I went in and the doctor took one look at my foot and said, "That's not tendonitis, that's gout!!!" WTH????
My doctor has treated me twice for this. The first time he did mention it could be gout but wasn't too concerned because treatment is the same. Why didn't he consider it last year when I had it a second time?? And then last fall he diagnosed me with arthritis, which is a lso associated with gout. I've been reading on-line all about gout - I have all the classic symptoms. And people with gout should avoid low-dose aspirin and niacin. My doctor put me on both of these last week for cholestrol. Does it sound like I'm having some doubts about my doctor right now.
Anyway, this other doctor did give me medication and it is starting to ease up already. I still can't get a shoe on though!
Thanks for letting me gohere.

I don't understand completely, but DMil side of the family has gout and other illness like it (like DH's things) and I had thought it was sort of in the joints....so at times it can be very, very painful and some people aren't able to walk on it....I think diet has a great affect on some people (like DH's uncle eats shellfish and his gout acts up).Good Ol Gal said:ok, I had to look it up in my dictionary.
gout:a disease in which defective metabolism of uric acid causes arthritis, esp. in the smaller bones of the feet, deposition of chalkstones, and episodes of acute pain.
so it's in your bones? I was picturing something like gangreen(sp?) that was on the outside.
