My DS10 took part in a choral festival at the Albert Hall last night in London. It is something that the London Borough of Redbridge have put on every 2 years since 1976 but the first time my son has taken part. It involves choirs from all the primary and secondary schools in the borough and Redbridge Music School provide the orchestra. The proceeds go to the current Mayor's charity of the year which this year was for teenage victims of cancer.

What a night! It was absolutely fantastic. The children have all put a lot of effort into making it such a success and they all really seemed to enjoy themselves. One song they sang was "Can you hear me?" - a song written from the perspective of a deaf child - and was chilling. The children had all learned to sign the chorus and the spectacle of (and I'm guessing here) approximately 500 children all signing and singing at the same time was breathtaking. The effort it must have taken on the part of the schools to pull this one together was amazing.

Just wanted to share my experience but I guess really you had to be there to appreciate what an incredible night it was. It is so lovely to see children ranging from primary to secondary schools putting their energies into something so good.

I felt incredibly proud of them all.

My son took part in something like this where the whole of the Royal Albert Hall was filled with children from various schools choirs - I was unable to go but from speaking to other parents it sounded like a really wonderful event!

I love the fact that a venue like this is made accessible for children to use.

It was a shame you didn't get to go Shirley - I'm sure you would have loved it.

I think it was a wonderful opportunity for the children to perform in such a wonderful building. I'd never been there before and I was completely overwhelmed so goodness knows how the children felt! My son also plays cello and his practice record has left a little to be desired of late. However, on the way home last night he said how good it was to see the cellists in the orchestra and did I think he would ever be able to play like that? I said it was amazing what a bit of practice does ...... he thought about that long and hard so with any luck it might spur him on a bit!

It sounds amazing.I'm sure I would have been in tears as the sound of children singing sometimes does this to me:p

The one with the children signing the song about being deaf must have been very moving::yes::
