My DS10 took part in a choral festival at the Albert Hall last night in London. It is something that the London Borough of Redbridge have put on every 2 years since 1976 but the first time my son has taken part. It involves choirs from all the primary and secondary schools in the borough and Redbridge Music School provide the orchestra. The proceeds go to the current Mayor's charity of the year which this year was for teenage victims of cancer.
What a night! It was absolutely fantastic. The children have all put a lot of effort into making it such a success and they all really seemed to enjoy themselves. One song they sang was "Can you hear me?" - a song written from the perspective of a deaf child - and was chilling. The children had all learned to sign the chorus and the spectacle of (and I'm guessing here) approximately 500 children all signing and singing at the same time was breathtaking. The effort it must have taken on the part of the schools to pull this one together was amazing.
Just wanted to share my experience but I guess really you had to be there to appreciate what an incredible night it was. It is so lovely to see children ranging from primary to secondary schools putting their energies into something so good.
I felt incredibly proud of them all.
