I know it is best to book early so you can get the resort/room and ADRs that you want. Is it possible to actually book a Disney vacation maybe a month or less in advance?? My husband is in a high demand career field in the military so he might not get an answer if he can take a vacation or not until about 2 weeks prior and many times it gets denied. Thanks!

I've done it several times. You just need to be flexible with where you stay. I have booked as little as 3 days in advance:thumbsup2

I have planned many last minute trips with my family of 5! And every time we have a blast. Yes, you don't necessarily get the resort/room category you want, or don't always get the ADR's you want, but you can definitely make the best out of it.

My advice is to check back often for ADR's that you are really wanting- we almost always get everything we want due to cancellations a few days before. With the new credit card guarantee for some restaurants, you will find people canceling around 24-48 hours before. So keep checking often, especially right before/during your trip if possible.

And we have been booking room only lately on our last minute trips. There is no penalty for changing dates as long as you are 5 days or longer from your trip. And the room balance isn't due until arrival, but you can pay in advance if you prefer (which we do). We usually purchase our tickets through the Disney World website or when we get the the resort.

Let us know if you have any more questions, and I hope that information helps!!!

Oh, and for room only you will just need a one night deposit to book. Hope that helps :)

I have also booked less than a week out when I found work was taking me to Orlando. I frequent the value resorts and it was no problem to get a room (October.).

We booked around a month out for my husband's 30th birthday trip. We had just been through a rough time and really needed to get away.

We did the quick service dining plan because ADR's were in short supply BUT that was before the credit card guarantee. We had no issue getting the resort or room type we wanted.

Thank you for your family's sacrifice to keep mine safe!

As others have said, you may have to be flexible with where you stay, but booking last minute is not a problem. As far as ADRs, people cancel all the time, so once you see that you can take the trip, keep checking for availability if what you want isn't available the first time you look.

Thank you! Although it isn't a sacrifice. It was his dream to be in the military. The kids and I are proud of him and love him, so we just stand by him and enjoy the ride!!

If you go last minute and can't find the resort/room you want, Expedia and Travelocity often have availability that Disney does not.

Love your DIS name! Mine is very boring on here, but I have used GAGirlInKS on others! Are you FROM Georgia?

PP are right. This is totally doable especially if you can do this outside of summer or major holiday times. While not in a "high demand" field, my husband is also military so I understand the "putting in for leave" and waiting to see if it's approved or denied. I'd keep a "list" of your top choices for resorts (in case your top choice isn't available) and restaurants. If you can be flexible on your times for meals (eating a late lunch at 2:10 rather than during prime lunch at 12:00), you'll probably be able to find just about anything you want. And if you can't, there are GREAT counter service options available as well.

Have fun planning!

Don't forget about Shades of Green and the military salute tickets.

Thank you all for the replies!! I have been planning almost a year now so I know exactly what I want. It's great to know we still may be able to do everything last minute!
