Tuesday February 3rd, 2004.
Lysa and I woke up early. Patti, Leigh and the kids were staying in that day to rest and relax after the long drive so we decided to go to Universal and check it out. We hadn't been there since 97 and were dying to see IOA. We had a quick Denny's breakfast and headed out. It was chilly, cloudy and foggy when we got to the parking garage (Jaws area). We marveled at the structure as we remembered parking above ground before. The walkways were cool. We grabbed a quick coffee at Starbucks and wandered around Citywalk. I love how everything is stylized in Orlando....
After a quick run through some of the stores and a quick scan of some of the menus we headed off towards Islands. Everything was so different. We remembered the last time we were there in 97 we parked near the gate of USF and the Hardrock restaurant was near the front gate? Also the Bates house was behind it. After getting our bearings, we went thru the turnstiles at IOA and signed in for the morning. This was 8:15am and it appeared that the park was empty. We would go minutes without seeing anyone. We gave a big grin and headed to Hulk. NO WAIT? Excellent. We burned through the line up (I kinda wanted to catch the storyline but Lysa wouldn't let me stop) and got a front seat for the coaster. We had no idea.....no idea whatsoever.
Excellent ride. Love the takeoff. We staggered thru the exit and
laughed our way to Spider - Man. No wait again.
We got thru the entire park in 2 hours and had a quick Funnel Cake Sundae (OMG these are awesome). We headed back to the Villa for an afternoon of swimming and relaxing.
The sun was out as we pulled into the parking lot and we ran to our room to change into our bathing suits. Patti, Leigh and the kids were gone. I guess they went to Downtown Disney to check things out. Lysa and I sat by the pool and waited for them to return.
They got back from DTD around 2 so we all hung by the pool and shared our day. The Lego place was a huge hit for the kids and Patti joked that if that was all they saw in Orlando, her kids would consider it the best vacation of their lives.
We made some plans for the next day (Magic Kingdom, yay!) and decided that we would all go out for dinner to the Rainforest Cafe at DTD. We all got dolled up for dinner and took seperate cars to the restaraunt. Leigh and I wanted to check out the Virgin store so we split up and Patti and Lysa took the kids to the Lego play area. That Virgin store is cool (but very expensive, DVD's were 21.99??? Thats what we pay here in Canadian Funds..) After a good hour of looking, Leigh and I wandered up to the Lego area and raced some lego cars with the kids. I could have stayed there all night. The ladies dragged us off to the Cafe and we did a bit of shopping while we awaited our table. The kids loved it. What a great place. I had the Shrimp Sampler plate (man I was stuffed) and Lysa had the chicken Ceaser salad. We all had the big DRINKS with the collector cups. YUMMY. The kids loved the thunderstorms and atmosphere. Nemo swam by our table a couple of times.
After dinner it was a quick trip to legoland and back to the villa to sleep. WHAT A GREAT DAY!.
