After many failed attempts at getting mine and my wife's schedule to sync up we are getting the chance to take a Disney vacation together for the first time. I've been to the parks before under different circumstances but never with my wife, and this will be her first time ever, so I'm quite excited to say the least.

Our trip is from March 8 to the 17. This was a very last minute decision so I've not made any ADR's at all. I've usually been to the parks alone or under other circumstances and usually just did CS or ate off property. I was actually lucky enough to get an ADR for the Fantasmic dinner party for one of the evenings of our stay so that will be fun as I've never seen it myself yet.

I know this is a long shot but I tried each day of our trip (except the evening of our Fantasmic package) in an attempt to secure a reservation for the Fireworks Desert Party but came up empty on every day. Are there any tricks to the trade any of you could offer me (yes, I know I should have reserved much, much sooner than this but it wasn't a for-sure trip until just today) that I might be able to secure any of the evenings of our trip for the desert party? I'd love for her first trip to be magical and I'm pretty sure that would be high on the list. It's only the two of us as well if that makes a difference.

Any help or advice any of you could give would be very much appreciated as I really don't know what else to do but keep checking multiple times a day until we leave.

Reservations for two should be easier, obviously, than any for more than that, so in that respect you're lucky. I've been told by cast members to try in the afternoon and again in the evening each day since people tend to cancel reservations during the day (they aren't trying to cancel as soon as DD opens in the morning). You have to keep trying. You might get lucky. I have even gotten a Cinderella res the week of...

We had to change plans last year at the last minute and so when we did go three weeks later, we were kind of hit and miss with our ADR's. The one thing that I really wanted was the Wishes Dessert Party and when I originally called, nothing was available. I tried calling from our room once we got there to see if anything was available for any of the nights we were there and we were able to get a reservation for the 5 of us for the following evening. Since they do charge you in advance, I think you may be able to get a reservation a day or so before the date that you want, since people have to cancel 24 hours in advance to get their money back. Good luck getting a reservation! It is a great way to be able to relax and enjoy the fireworks.

If you CAN'T get a reservation for the wishes dessert party, why don't you consider doing 'Ohana's for dinner on your last night and then watching the fireworks from the beach at the Polynesian??? That would be quite romantic and would be very magical. I think that's what we're going to do at the end of our vacation in August.

Good luck with your attempt to get the dessert party though. I hope you manage to get a cancellation!

Keep checking. OUr last trip we wanted last minute reservations for seven at 1900 Park Fare before 9am. Seemed stupidly impossible, I didn't even know why I was checking, then an opening came up and I snatched it.
