So...I realized yesterday that I didn’t really have anywhere to stay this weekend. Having recently given up my apartment in Chicago because I never actually got the chance to see it, I’m currently living out of hotels full time.

I also get over other Friday off, which is pretty much the sweetist deal ever. Anyway, I’ve been busy planning some other trips (Vegas, Disney for Food and Wine!!!!) and just figured I’d go visit family or something for my long weekend. Then, suddenly, it was Wednesday and I realized I had one more night in the hotel for work and then zero plans until Monday morning (when my boss actually does require that I show up).

Cue some frantic searching of flight availability while watching Chopped on the hotel TV. Can’t get a reasonably priced ticket home or to visit family in various cities. Find a cheap flight to NYC, but actually going there next weekend, so no. Vegas is ludicrously expensive ---- not even counting my eventual gambling loses (I’m a sucker for a Blackjack table). I decide I’ve been working hard and deserve a break - so I start looking at potential fun/beach vacations: FLL (all my love to the Westin Diplomat) - No; MIA - No; SJU - No; MSY - Potential, but drinking on Bourbon alone just seems sad, even to me; TPA - No. At this point, I’ve pretty much given up hope. But on a whim I check MCO….and holy grail!!!! there is a low level award flight on Delta - out Friday morning, back Sunday afternoon. I check my “important paper” file and I do indeed still have my 2013 military salute park hopper ticket with two days left. But I hesitate. Hesitation is death. By the time I decide to actually go on and book the ticket is gone. I am sad. I put alerts out on expertflyer for award tickets on American Airlines and swear that next time when I see it, I’m going to book it no hesitation.

My phone beeps this morning while I’m half-heartedly drying my hair. Side Note: Hotels with those puny little hair dryers stuck to the wall do not give me a happy. Award space opened on the Friday morning direct flight to MCO. I dither. There’s no space available (yet) for a flight back. But, I did promise myself I’d book it if it became available. I finally decide that for 7,500 BA miles and $2.50 in taxes to pull the trigger and figure the rest of it out later. I book it, get a confirmation, and head into work with a smile.

As the morning wears on, I begin to have buyer’s remorse. I have no flight home. They often open things up 48 hours before a flight, but am I willing to risk having to buy a last minute ticket home if it doesn’t? I'm not sure. During lunch, I decided to do some searching and a find a flight back on Sunday. It’s not ideal, leaving early with a stopover in Dallas, but it works and it’s only 12,500 AA miles plus $5. I book. I’m lucky enough to be an executive platinum with no fees for changing or cancelling an award ticket, so if something better comes along, I’ll switch! Life is good and I’m going to Disney!!!

Tonight, while enjoying happy hour at my hotel’s bar, I looked into hotel options. Pop hotels available for $130ish/night; DTD Hilton for $80ish (+$20 resort fee -- HATE resort fees!!!! add it to the price!!!!); Dolphin for $129 (they also have a resort fee - BOO!, but waive it for SPG platinums - YAY!) So Dolphin it is -- it’s always good to be within stumbling home distance from Jelly Rolls….not that I would know anything about that! Grabbed a cheap hotel near the airport for Thursday night and my weekend is set.

I’m still hoping for a later direct flight home on Sunday to open up, but I’m not holding my breath. Flights seem relatively full. I also don’t have a hotel for Saturday night...EEK. If I can get a later flight, I’ll probably grab another night at Dolphin/Swan. If not, I’ll priceline or HotelTonight an airport hotel.

I have no other plans as of yet. Still need to figure out taxi v. car service v. shuttle for transportation. Where to eat/drink/party. What parks to hit. Where to watch my alma mater crush their opponent on Saturday. Too many questions to contemplate tonight. So I guess it's time for bed. Also, I'm out of wine. I guess I’ll figure everything else out tomorrow.

....more to come...

Hi wiigirl -- it's nice to have a reader. :thumbsup2

My plan is to sort-of live blog as I go along....mostly from my phone and mostly for my own benefit, but it's fun to have virtual companions along for the ride.

It's been taking all of my concentration this morning to stay engaged in my actual work and not just daydream about Disney. It's lunch now. Just checked my personal email and received an email confirmation for my stay at Dolphin - I've been pre-upgraded into an Alcove Room! Sweet! (Unfortunately not Suite!, but maybe I can talk them into something at check-in). And there goes my concentration!

My biggest dilemma right now is figuring out my touring plan for Saturday.

I'm super tempted to do a grand slam and hit all four parks in one day. I've always wanted to do this. My friends think I'm crazy. They're probably right. This is my chance to do it without having to drag a reluctant companion along.

BUT - College Football! Can I miss watching the game. My team isn't particularly popular, so I'd have to hit up ESPN zone or possibly the pool bar at the Dolphin. It's not expected to be a particularly interesting game, so maybe I can survive just getting updates on my phone.

Tough Call!

Just boarded my flight. Managed to somehow get my award ticket upgraded to first. The travel gods are smiling upon me. Lots of little kids boarding...all look very excited. I just want to sleep more....Thursday night football does not make for a happy 5am wake up call!

Still no luck on a better flight home. I'm hopeful, but not holding my breath. I booked a room at the courtyard marriott airport for saturday night using marriott's best rate guarantee. For $63, it will do. I like to think I'm a master of the travel system, but I still have much to learn.

I'm in Orlando!!!!

:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

The flight was uneventful. The food was shockingly edible and it was too early for me to drink (in hindsight - I should have Irished my coffee). I slept, I read a bit and then bang! we were there.

We landed a bit early, got a gate right away and I whisked myself towards ground transportation. I'm always amused by the people standing around gaping in airports, but Orlando is a particularly egregious case with all the tourists. I pointed a few lost groups the right direction on my way through trying to earn some karma points.

At 11:10 (the time we were supposed to arrive), I bought a one-way on Mears. Headed outside to check-in. I don't know if this is new or not as I haven't taken Mears Shuttle before, but they gave a page (like the ones used in restaurants) and told me it would be no more than 30 minutes. It gave me time to fill my water bottle and plug in some devices foe a re-charge. By 11:25 I was being paged and by 11:35 we were loaded up and on our way.

Unfortunately, we were just on our way over to the other terminal of the airport. Ended up actually leaving at 11:44. Arrived at my hotel approximately 12:45. It's not a quick journey, but it does save some money.

Typing this from my King Alcove Room at the Dolphin -- it's pretty a relatively spacious junior suite with a large sitting area and decent sized bathroom. Too bad it's just me and just for one night. I'm headed over to MK to check out the new Fantasyland eventually making my way over to Hollywood Studios for their late night Friday the 13th Villain party. Don't think I'll make it until the 1AM closing, but it will be awesome to see.

Posting from the MK train.

Grabbed a FP to Splash.
Burger at Peco Bills...nom nom nom.
FP to Big Thunder
Train
Heading back to ride Big Thunder

A great few hours.

There is something about that first glimpse of the castle as you enter the park.

BTMR is like a free visit to the chiropractor. My spine has been fully realigned.

Jungle Cruise is closed. This is why I should try to do a bit of research before starting my day.

POTC for the win. Yo ho yo ho!

Heres something I cannot understand. Space Mountain at 4 pm - 50 min standby and fp return 445. Why is everyone getting in standby line.

I'm using the time to see Carousel of Progress (just as kitschy as always) and Monsters Inc laugh floor.

Hollywood studios was packed last night. I ended up heading in early and decided to do a grand slam today...why not.

It will be easier for me because I'm doing my favorite attraction at each park plus one thing new (or nostalgic - that I havent done since childhood). I'm not a fan of Toy Story without a group and I dont care for Kilimanjaro Safari so that makes life easier.

EMH at Hollywood opened at 8.

I rode the Rockin Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Star Tours (twice) and saw Muppetvision 3D.

Lucked out with a bus to AK right as I got over to stop....on my way to Park 2 by 9:30.

1045ish.

Ridden Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, and Expedition Everest. More seated waiting for 11 showing of Finding Nemo.

Stopped in bathroom and looked pretty red. I hope some of that is from being in heat. Especially since Ive been applying sunscreen on my face at least once every hour.
