Last minute ressies?

I'm just wondering what kind of luck people have using points for last minute reservations -- both less than 60 days out, and real impulse trips only a week or two in advance. Obviously, I'm talking about a situation where we would have some flexibility about when and where, and also a timeframe which would not be during absolute peak periods. We'd also be looking for studios, not Grand Villas.

I know about the 30 day cancellation/holding issue, so there's no need to explain that.

Any wisdom/experiences -- either good or bad -- would be helpful.

I would be interested in anyones experience with last minute 2BR at HH. LIke a few days in advance. We might do this in late March if the weather looks good.

I thought about going down on Wednesday, and called about ressies. They actually had a studio at SSR through the weekend! I'm not going, DH thought I had gone over the edge, but I'm working on him! I thought a trip early in March might be nice. Have ressies during Easter-three days, and those points would pay for an 8 day trip now!! Airfare, car rental--it's all cheaper! I'm not picky about which accommodations I get, although I must say I was a bit disappointed that OKW was sold out.

I had no luck with any type of accomodation at any resort less than 60 days out for this past Nov. I was trying to add a 1 or 2 bedroom on to our 4 nights at any DVC resort. I was even willing to go with a studio to add to my 1 bedroom---no luck. My waitlist never came through. This was from Nov 2-6.
OTOH, we booked a studio PV at BWV at approx 50 days out in 2003. The stay was for the end of July. At that time, there was more availability at BWV and limited at BCV (these were the only two resorts I inquired about at that time). Good luck. Since you said you're flexible, I'm hoping something will come through for you

I called in sept of 2003 for a studio at BWV oct 16-18 and got it (boy was I suprised) we had a great time

I have been known to call as late as the day of. 90% of the time I can get a studio someplace (usually OKW).

We reserved a studio at SSR within a month of checkin for last month's quickie. Our only choices at that time were SSR or OKW. We also reserved a Disney Cruise within 60days of departure using DVC points for that same trip.

We've called as late as the day of also, and been successful. I suspect it also has something to do with the time of year. Early November is the Food & Wine Fest, no longer a best kept secret. DVC seems to sell out FAST for that event.
