Last Minute Planning for DVC

We have DVC and have made an annual trip for the last 10 yrs. Our DD was diagnosed with Leukemia last Sept and is scheduled for a Bone Marrow Transplant in 2 weeks. It is her wish that we (DH, me, DD, DSiL & DGrD) spend Christmas at Disney World... Now I know there is no way we will know for several months if she will be well enough to go-so we'll have to leave our plans in limbo until probably Oct. Most likely we will need a 2 BR or 2 studios. We really don't care where in the "World" we stay- and would be willing to go probably the week before Christmas or so if necessary. I'm so used to booking 11 months out-so this is making my "planning gene" go crazy.
Any suggestions of things we may be able to do???

You may want to contact the Make A Wish Foundation or Give Kids The World. They may be able to grant a wish for her Christmas trip last minute.

I notice you posted here in January and were going to make your Christmas reservation at that time with travel insurance since your DD is ill. Did you not follow through on that plan?

Booking via DVC will be next to impossible that late, but you may have some luck through CRO. Best wishes to you and your daughter..

My thoughts and prayers to you and your daughter.
Can you book the stay now and then if your plans change, cancel your booking?

Even though you are well inside the 11-7 month out time frame, you are still more than 7n months out, so I'd call now and make any reservation you can get at your home resort. If there is nothing available, I'd call right at the 7 month booking window and request any resort and any size unit or combination of units that will work for you. Then go on a waitlist if you can't get the whole trip at once.

Hopefully you will still be in your banking window if you need to cancel.

our difficulty is that we need to "bank" by Oct 31st - and we won't know what's happening until possibly into November. I was going to book and take out the insurance, but since she had a "pre existing condition" it wouldn't cover us....
At that time we weren't sure if we could find a bone marrow donor-but we are blessed that one was found through the National Marrow Donor Program "Be The Match". She is scheduled for May 7th and Dr said to expect about 6 months to when she could travel. Well may not make it for this Christmas, but maybe we can plan something more definitive for next year. Praying for the cure :littleangel:

God has answered many prayers already... maybe we can get this one too :)

Sending prayers for your daughter.

I too would suggest booking now with whatever you can find and then see how tings are going in Oct. You will be able to have a more realistic look at the possibilities at that point.

Travelguard.com has policies that cover preexisting conditions if you buy the insurance within 14 days of booking and paying the deposit.
If you book and cannot go in December, perhaps she will feel up to going in January or February. Those would be easy months to book if you have points in holding.
I am praying that your daughter comes through this smoothly. You are fortunate to have found the match.

I would also ask her physician to give a referral to MAW. They would likely be able to grant her wish to be at WDW for the holidays- you can choose to stay at GKTW but if your daughter's wish is to stay on Disney property, that can be accommodated also. There are advantages though to GKTW and she'd only have the one opportunity to stay there. Of course you could always book this trip via DVC and still apply for a wish to be taken later when she's had more time to recover from the transplant. Take a look at the DISabilities board and the Wish Trippers Unite thread to get more info. Sending lots of pixie dust for your daughter and your family!--Kathy

Good luck with your trip planning, and most importantly with your daughter.
