I'm in dire need for some expert advice. My sweet son with autism has just informed me that he wants to go to Disneyland this summer. I would love to take the family there, but I need help with hotels and things to do in the Disneyland/LA area. I plan to visit for 10 days at the end of July into the first week of August. All ideas will be greatly appreciated. popcorn::

How old is your son? There are a number of things in the Disneyland area that can be done as day trips.
Legoland, tends to be for the younger child
San Diego has the zoo & Sea World
Beaches all over.
Knott's Berry Farm & Six Flags for the thrill seekers.
Parks & sites all over to be seen.

Give yourself enough time at Disneyland so you can take it at leisurely pace so your son doesn't get overwhelmed.

We're going at the end of July with 10 people & our almost 3 yr old twins are autistic.....so we are planning on lots of breaks & doing 6 days at Disneyland...so not to feel rushed.

The 3 Disney resorts are all very nice but too spendy for our large family. The motels on Harbor across from the park are all pretty good. We've stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites & the Tropicana and both suited our needs fine. This trip we're staying at the HoJo, since we plan on spending more time at the motel. They have beautiful grounds & a swim pool & a water park play area for kids......I know we're all looking forward to this!!

Good luck with your plans!! All I can say is....let your interests guide you in researching what would be best for your family.

You might want to check out Costco, they have some good package deals which include all the fees and taxes, so the price you see is what you pay. I would suggest if you stay on site, you get Magic Mornings (Sat, Sun, Tue,Thur) and you can ride the rides in Fantasy land first thing, then be first in line when Toon Town opens, then have a bite to eat, and either go back to the room to take a nap, go swimming, then take a nap, then go to California Adventure for a while.
Pace yourself and you will have a wonderful time. I would suggest looking through the threads and pictures, then map out 'must sees' that would interest your child, and go from there. The senses can be overly stimulated at Disneyland very quickly if rushed.
In California Adventure, Bugs Land is pretty interesting for young children.
Hooray! You are going to Disneyland!party:

We will be there at the same time! Say hi! :wave2:

These links cover a lot of your questions...

"A DLR Guide for WDW Vets" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599

"Getting The Most Out of a Summer Visit To DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1345319

If you don't stay at a hotel with a waterslide you may want to try a waterpark too. There is one right by knotts that I think is probably the closest to DLR.

Thank you so much for all of your ideas and suggestions. Since this is our first first trip to DL we are so excited and looking forward to the visit. I will probably pick up the citypass at Costco. We are still undecided with the hotel choice. We would love to stay on property, but $$$$! I will do some more research and checkout some additional threads.
Again thanks a lot!
