So... I know I am asking in a place of enablers.... but what would you do?

I have a 24 hour hold on the March 6 4 night sailing on the Magic for myself, DH, DD4 and DS5. The cost of the cruise, tips and transfers etc would be about 5K. We have the money due to a very substantial inheritance we have been given early. We also have air miles and flights that would work. We have been going through some super stressful stuff at work and home. Here are my cons though.

1. My husband is currently out of work. He has interviews in the pipe, but nothing has hit yet. I am a teacher and next week is Spring Break. This is why we are both free. Our kids are both in preschool.

2. These miles we were planning on using to go to WDW next summer. So- there would be about a 2K added expense to that trip.

3. The kids would miss some of their activities (this is a minor con).

4. We could drive to Sea World instead. I have free teacher passes for us all. We could do three nights there and one day at Sea World and another day either at the zoo, beach, harbor tour etc. This whole thing would probably cost around $500. That's still a little getaway... but a lot cheaper/easier.

So..... thoughts? DH says cruise. I say San Diego.

In your situation, I'd probably opt for San Diego. There's no way of knowing when your husband will get a job. And that "extra" cash could come in handy.

We decided to go to San Diego. We are adding another day and going to the zoo too. And now we see it is supposed to rain on Monday! Oh well- it should still be fun and a lot cheaper and less stress. We are just not spontaneous enough for a last minute cruise- ha ha!

your kids would probably love Legoland too (Oceanside)

The last time we visited Legoland our youngest was 18 and the CM's there would give us funny looks (4 adults at Legoland, having fun on the rides, without kids -- they must be creepers!!). I have had a blast there ... it's not Disneyland, but still fun for what it is and the Lego models they have built are fantastic.

Really? I didn't think it was cheap by any means, but I thought it was kind of standard. We paid $1000 for two of us for the San Diego 2 night on opening day in 2014. That was $250/ per person per day- navigators verandah room. The fare was $3928 for four people in a Verandah GTY room. I figured that was again $250 pp, per day. The extra grand I figured in for ground transfers, drinks, tips etc.

Don't know if you've been to the SD Zoo -- but buy the tram tour. Do that first, and from there you can decide where you want to walk to an visit. That place is HUGE and with your young'uns it could be a very tiring day for everyone.

I would go with San Diego :)
Save the cruise for a celebration once your hubby hits a year on the new job :)
