We are going to do a quick weekend trip on May 12 to visit "the other place". I usually go through Alamo, but other companies are much cheaper, but I have never heard of them. Any suggestions or recommendations?
Thanks!!

Do you have a Costco membership by any chance? We got a killer deal for this trip through them!

Most of the big name companies are reliable and have nationwide availability: Hertz, Budget, Avis, Enterprise, Dollar and National.
Whatever company you are looking at, join their member or free club, this usually offers you discounts. Look around at shopping portals (Southwest, MyPoints, Ebates, Swagbucks, RetailMeNot, etc..) for discount codes.
I just recently learned that Southwest will award Rapid Rewards points for car rentals retroactively--so if you rent a car you can get RR points after the fact.
Also look at your memberships in travel clubs or with travel credit cards. Your accrued miles or points may buy you a car rental.
Have a fun trip!!

Definitely Costco, and they wave the additional $25 fee for an additional driver.

Don't forget Priceline. They tend to be especially useful for last-minute weekend trips.

try sixt I have been able to get some really good deals from them . I almost always use them when traveling to FL for work orlando FT lauderdale or miami you an usually rent a much better car for less money with them

Let me know what you find. I am looking for may 20 and can't seem to get under $275 for the smallest car! I don't have a Costco membership as there isn't one anywhere in our area. I'm frustrated!

Take a look on the rental car watch threads on the transportation boards. They post lots of good codes there and I used it extensively for our April rental (2 weeks ago) and got a much better rate than I would have found on my own!

I also get a lot of good info from the Transportation board. The wonderful people over there post so many codes. You have to play around with each of the sites and codes to find the best deal, but couple that with bidding on priceline and I usually do ok.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Costco was the cheapest and I have been looking for an excuse to get a membership. :rolleyes1

I have had success booking on Alamo the Tuesday before the trip through the last minute deals. We usually get about 20% off. Good luck!
