Day 2 – Travelling to DLRP, Sequoia Lodge and Disneyland Park

Having set the alarm we packed up our overnight stuff and went downstairs for the buffet breakfast. Even though we were travelling in Leisure Select and getting breakfast on the eurostar, we knew none of us would be able to wait that long for something to eat especially as DP is diabetic and needed to do her injection!

We returned to the room and packed up the last bits and at 8.35am started to walk over to Waterloo. The best thing about staying at the Travel Inn at County Hall is that it’s so close you don’t need a taxi.

I used the self service machines to collect the tickets and when we looked at the return tickets we saw that we were scattered all over the carriage – not much good when you have a child really is it? So I went over the to the information/ticket desk and pointed out the problem. The woman was pretty unhelpful and defensive even though I was incredibly polite and apologetic to her for causing hassle. She claimed not to understand why the “system” had done that as there were 3 seats around a table of four available anyway so she sorted it eventually.

We checked in and went through passport control uneventfully although it is definitely more hassle than doing it at the airport as you are lugging your suitcase too!

The queue at the gate was huge so we walked further down to the other gate and managed (just) to find seats. Charlie went to the magical express desk and asked if he could have a kids pack and they kindly gave him one. We all quite enjoyed sitting listening to the band playing Disney tunes.

By 9.30 we were beginning to wonder what was going on as we should have been boarded by now and at 9.40 they eventually announced that there was a technical problem with our train and we would be boarded at 10.00.

10.00 came and went with no announcement or movement and then at 10.15 they suddenly announced that we would be boarding shortly. Charlie was none too impressed by this!

Eventually at 10.20 they opened boarding and we quickly found our carriage and seats in Leisure Select. Charlie and I were sat on a Duo and D was across the aisle in a Club 4. We eventually left around 10.45 so an hours delay.

After picking up passengers in Ashford we finally got our “breakfast” which was quite handy because it became lunch as it was 12 when it was served. Croissant and roll to start with sausage, beans and omelette next.

The rest of the journey passed quickly and Charlie really enjoyed going in the tunnel. Soon afterwards it seemed that we had arrived at DLRP. We were first off the train and found the Sequoia Lodge bus stop with ease. A ten minute wait for a bus and before we knew it we were in the very small queue for check in and Mickey had arrived!

Charlie was ecstatic to see his favourite so soon – bless. Off to our Montana Lake View Room – which was lovely and we quickly unpacked and gathered our stuff ready for the parks!

By 3.30 we were in the Disneyland Park and were all very excited.

DP and DS

We headed straight for Phantom Manor which Charlie absolutely loved, having spent the equivalent ride at WDW 3 years previously hiding so he couldn’t see anything! We only waited for about 15 minute which wasn’t too bad for a Saturday afternoon on bank holiday weekend I thought! We then wandered around and went to Adventure Isle and did all the bits and pieces there before heading over to do Pirates.

Now this was nearly a disaster. When we got inside the building Charlie started freaking out about the drops, crying and saying he didn’t want to do it even though he had been fine on it in WDW. I was really cruel and firm though as I knew he was remembering it incorrectly and that he would enjoy it. He still sobbed a bit as we sat in the boat but as it moved off he suddenly stopped and was absolutely fine – in fact he loved it! I’m sure everyone around me was thinking what an evil mother and I never normally force him on to any ride but in this case I knew he was having a false memory syndrome! He came out saying he wanted to do it again and it was one of his favourite rides!

After looking round the shop we decided we had better make our way to Disney Village for our ADR at Café Mickey.

Part 2 coming later.
