I picked up my older DS at his school this afternoon, we talked about his day and he seemed happy. He told me that he was sad to leave his friends and teacher (he really liked her), then a few minutes later he started crying.
All this happened while I was driving to pick up DS#2 at his school. By the time we got there, DS had calmed down a bit. Then DS#2 got in the van, his teacher talked to me briefly and I gave her a present. As soon as we left the parking lot, DS#2 started to cry because he didn't want to leave his teacher. Then older DS starts to cry again and they were both bawling.
DS#2 was in a multi-age class, so we thought that he would stay with his teacher another year. We found out a month ago that the school decided to do away with the multi-age classes.
These are the same kids that were thrilled this morning that today was the last day of school.
Go figure...
They did have terrific teachers this year. I was really sympathetic to their sadness because I remember being there myself. I told them it was normal to feel this way.
Now that they have calmed down, I feel like crying...
