Lash extensions?

I don't think she spends an hour straight working on her lashes. My guess is that she applies primer and goes off and does something else in her "getting ready" procedure. Comes back and applies another coat. Then goes off again. And the same for the coats of mascara.

I've just started using L'Oreal's Double Extension Beauty Tubes mascara and have really loved it so far. No flaking or smudging, though it can clump if you're not super-careful. Even with multiple coats (to cover the white base coat that goes on first), it takes me about 3 minutes to do my lashes.

NO it never smudges on me. Maybe you are using a make up with too much oil and that is making it smudge. I am really bummed I never went for the free make up. If I knew they were giving away Fatale I would have gone a hundred times over:rotfl: It is REALLY hard to pay 24.95 at Sephora when it was only 5.00 at the outlet. I am hoping Lancome has a gift and that will ease the pain when I need to re buy it. I just keep checking the outlet store and have NO idea why they had it so cheap. If they have it for even 10.00 again I am going to buy 10 of them!

You might want to stock up no matter what the price. I heard a rumor on makeup alley that they are going to discontinue it. :scared1: I don't know how true this is because the lady at Nordstrom's assured me they had no plans to discontinue it, but I'm not so sure. It's not a big seller because it really is rather difficult to apply until you get the hang of and even then, it takes patience. Last time I went to Macy's they were all out, which doesn't bode well. I will be so upset if they discontinue this because it is the best mascara I have found.

No, it's an hour just on mascara. Really between 45 minutes to an hour. That's for top and bottom, though, which I don't always do. Sometimes I do just the top, so 30 minutes for that.

I tried this, but my lashes looked so stiff and dry and the mascara barely lengthened my lashes at all.

In that case, Holy Moly!

Oh, I do use a mineral make-up and I absolutely love it! But I think everyone is getting the wrong idea. Yes, I use a lot of make-up, but I don't look like Tammy Faye. I don't spend all my time caking it on, coat after coat - it has more to do with precision. I spend a lot of time building up my lashes with the primer, making sure they are all straight and separated and then making sure the mascara goes on smoothly and that they stay straight and separated.

Here is a picture: I'm usually the one behind the camera so I don't have a lot to choose from. It's is in black and white and you can't tell much about my lashes, but at least you can see I do NOT look like Tammy Faye (please tell me I don't look like Tammy Faye).

I KNEW IT!! You're very pretty. Go to MAC! They can teach you amazing short cuts for makeup. We probably have similar lashes I'm telling you that Bad Girl lash is amazing! Try it. Here is a pic of me with my extensions.
I'm sure i have a side view one somewhere. Let me know.
PS. You don't look like Tammy.

I'm not trying to give you flack, I just really can't understand why anyone would think they need that much mascara. It makes me think of Tammy Fayee. I'm sure you look great without it and it's more an insecurity than idiosyncrasy.

OUCH!!!

To the OP, you go girl! Anything you need to do to make yourself feel fabulous - YOU GO FOR IT!!
I have snow white eyelashes and wear mascara every day. When I'm going out at night I use primer first to get that long, full look. It doesn't take me more than a few minutes but every person has their own way and their own comfort level.
Before I go on vacation I dye my lashes so I don't have to worry about mascara. I've seen the extensions at the salon, it's tempting.
Have a great trip!!

My mom paid some serious $$ for extensions because she too has very short lashes. It takes a while but the effect is worth it...IN THE WINTER. She did it during the summer and the natural oils, heat and humidity lifted the lashes right off and when the lashes lift, it looks horrible.

I use glasses so I have to be careful with mascara and I like my eyes to stand out. I like Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Mascara. It lenghthens really nicely and doesn't give me stripes on my glasses or smudge.

ETA: and I'm going to go ahead and say what you all are probably thinking but are too polite to point out - yes, I realize 'older' women should wear LESS makeup, not more. Nevertheless, I prefer dramatic eyes and like the way they look on me.

Oh my word, you are pretty! Here I've been giving more attention to my eyelashes and this is the look I want! I can't do the 30 minutes to an hour though. I guess that's why I'm not getting that kind of result. Everyone has their "thing". But you are certainly getting payoff for your effort.

I'm in my forties and I'd love to pull off a look like that. Lately, I've been looking at youtube for tutorials on tightlining. You're probably doing that already.

OUCH!!!

How do you dye eyelashes???

So - you stand in front of a mirror for an hour or are able to do one coat, walk away and do something, come back and do another coat? Honestly, in your pic, I think your eyes are overdone. But it could be the lighting, too.

Anyway, can you take a small mirror and do it on the way to the parks, etc? On the bus, stop in the bathroom real quick to finish off? No way in hell would I waste 1 hour each day on my eye lashes. I can guarantee you are probably the only one who notices if they are "did" or not.

Thank you for the compliment NTDreams and MissParkAvenue! Actually, I am a little self-conscious of my looks, thus all of the fuss with my makeup. But, I have to ask, what is 'tightlining'? Is that something that can help with aging? I will be 47 soon, so I need all the help I can get in that area.

And NTDreams, your eyes really look beautiful in that picture. Do you have a close-up?

I can guarantee you are probably the only one who notices if they are "did" or not.

And that's ok. I'm doing it for my own self-confidence. I just feel better about myself with my make-up 'done'. Well, I also do it for my DH - he likes the look as well.

KimR ~ First of all you are beautiful! I don't know about all this mascara talk, I use a pretty basic brand. Maybe I should explore some of these primers, etc. But I think you were trying to talk about lash extensions in the first place. I have never had them done in a salon or anything, but I have done some myself at home. I found them a little hard to do, but I think with more practice I could get better at it. (I was trying to do them for a trip to Vegas, and I ended up deciding to skip it because I was having some trouble on my practice sessions!) I know someone who lost most of her eyelashes due to an illness and she wears them every day. She applies them herself and they look great. So I think if you worked on it at home first you might be able to master it. I have no idea how they work in humidity and/or the pool!

I don't have any helpful advice...but I think you look really nice. And in no way do I think it is a big deal that you take time to look great. More power to you! This may be a silly question, but what about just fake eyelashes? Like this kind you just glue on? I've never used them, but they can look really nice.

I'm at work at can't see your pictures so I need to subscribe so I can see your pretty lashes at home.

I struggle with short fine lashes also. Plus, I'm Asian...lol

OMG. I didn't know anyone even still wore mascara! I can't imagine worrying about that at Disney World. Just have fun.

What about false lashes? They might have the effect you're looking for without as much work. I've never used them because I'm very sensitive to adhesive (as found out when I wore a false nose in a theater class!), but done right they can look really classy. I don't know much about extensions, but the ads for the "Beauty tubes" mascara look tempting. Wet n' Wild has a similar product (I know it's the cheapest stuff on the market, but it's great on stage!). You look lovely in your picture. I think on vacation you can get by without as much makeup, though. Get a fabulous pair of shades! :)

How do you dye eyelashes???

With eyelash dye. I use a European brand but there are plenty of brands available here in the states. Depending on the brand you use, it takes about 25 minutes per eye and lasts about 4-6 weeks.
It's awesome for tropical vacations when you really don't want to worry about makeup!!
Most salons do it and charge about $25. And they can do both eyes at the same time!! :rotfl:

Allergan Pharmaceuticals just released a new medication that increases the length & fullness of your lashes. It's called Latisse. You should google it & then ask your doctor about it. My time is money, so if I spent an hour a day, every day on something as trivial as mascara, you'd better believe I'd be getting this drug.
