Ok if you are going to Vegas to enjoy your time and Gambling is not on the top of your list. Enjoying the site, enjoying show, enjoying service of your hotel and atmosphere not per say the fountain in Bellagio since that's all I hear from friends who have been there. I mean total relaxation late mornings in waking up, comfortable beds and no bites when you wake up, a comfortable bathroom for long baths no mold no streak of black lines, friendly hall ways not the dump dark smelling ones. Located at a good spots to walk to near by show and sites. Hmmm that's all I can think of right now... :teeth:

Just remember your food, show, shopping, partying and gambling choices are not limited to the hotel you're staying at. I think the only thing limited is the pools.

I'd stay somewhere centrally located. You can drive to and park for free (just watch the signs) at any hotel on the Strip. So if you stay at one and you don't want to walk to another you can drive.

something that is not on your list it the Rio,all suites. It is not on the strip, just behind it. If you are lookin at getting around on public transpertation and foot this is not the hotel for you. If you are going to have a rental it is nice. you don't have the traffic of the strip to deal with to get around. Also, look for a hotel that is theamed to something you like. stayed at Treasure Island, had a nice room overlooking the strip. Have stayed at Luxor and hated it. On check in day, there was a cart and tray in the hall, no big deal, 26 hours later same tray and cart.

No need for a taxi. Stay mid-strip and you'll have a bunch of hotels (more than you'll really know what to do with) within walking distance. There are several hotels that are interconnected as well.

Click here for a map of the strip and the hotel locations. It is about 10 minutes to walk from the Monte Carlo to the Bellagio. The Monte Carlo and the NYNY are about a 2 minute walk. http://www.lasvegasmaps.com/stripmap.html is another one. I've walked from the Ceasers to the Luxor to the Wynn back to Ceasers. We were exploring along the way but it is doable.

I agree with WatchinCaptKangaroo. If you stay midstrip, mostly everything is within walking distance.

I voted for the Venetian. Now, to be honest, I've never stayed there, but I have stayed at Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Paris and Treasure Island. The reason I voted for the Venetian is because you are staying a week and I think that you would enjoy the extra space provided by the suites at the Venetian. IMO, a regular hotel room (even one at Bellagio) gets "old" after a few days. A suite at the Venetian will be more comfortable for a week's stay. I'm sure everything at the Venetian is expensive, but that is the same for Bellagio. We stayed at the Bellagio in June and everything was expensive, soda from the machine, a quick coffee from the coffee shop - everything. The one thing I didn't care for at Bellagio was the throngs of people just walking around to experience the hotel. So many people all the time - most of them not hotel guests. It got annoying.

I hope you have a great time - whatever you decide!

I personally would stay mid strip and would never consider staying at The Luxor or Excalibur. They are both run down and dumpy in my opinion.

You call the Luxor dumpy ?? not in a million years !

DH and I LOVE the Bellagio but I think the Venetian looks beautful as well. One thing to help you decide may be your preference of location on the strip.

Sorry to say, but I agree. In comparison to many other resorts in Las Vegas, the Luxor is at the lower end of the scale with Excalibur and Circus Circus.

Oh please, I would hardly rate the Luxor with CC & Excalibur

As far as which hotel to stay at, I think it depends on what kind of person you are, different tastes for different people. Check photos of each hotel and see what appeals to YOU

I agree.

We have stayed at both Bellagio and the Venetian and I have to say that I like the ambience of the Venetian rooms better then the standard Bellagio rooms. Now if you are getting fountain view, then I would definitely stay at Bellagio just for the fountain, but the rooms at Venetian are much nicer (at least I think so).

Me neither! The Luxor was built in 1993 (a friend of mine worked on it) so it's an older casino - it's not going to be on the same level as the Bellagio, Venetian or the newer hotels. I definitely wouldn't put it on the same level as CC! The best hotel for you really depends on your budget and what you want to do while you're in Vegas. Personally, while staying in the high end casinos are nice, how much time does the average person really spend in their room? If I'm going for an entire weekend, I'd rather stay in a not-so-expensive hotel/casino, and spend the money I save doing other things. You can always stay at one place, dine at another, club at another, and gamble at another. Each of the hotel/casinos have something that appeals to different people. That's the beauty of Vegas!

I'm as much of a hotel snob as anyone but as much as I love the strip, I love to stay Downtown as well. We stayed at the Fitzgerald last January and had a great time! The room was big, clean and we had a GORGEOUS view of the mountains (I'll have to find a pic to post)

We love to stay Downtown and then visit the strip! As avid gamblers (sans a huge bankroll) we get to play much more Downtown and we have a blast! Freemont Street is so much fun! The Golden Nugget is one of my favorite casinos! We will likely stay Downtown for any nights that we don't have for free on the strip!

BTW, I agree that Luxor is much better than Excalibur or Circus Circus. Really no comparison!

Sorry but the MANY trips we've taken to Las Vegas the Luxor AND the Excalibur have gone down hill quickly! You may not agree and that is fine but they are older, haven't been renovated in forever and need a much needed face lift in order to compete in the Vegas Market of NOW! Back in the "DAY" YES they were nice hotel/casinos....now compared to the hotels on the strip such as the Venetian and the Bellagio YES they ARE A DUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have stayed at them ALL and yes they are a dump compared to the higher end scale hotels such as Caesars and Bellagio and Venetian!!!!!!!! In fact they are heading for dump status such as Circus Circus if they don't do something to update their look. YOU may NOT agree with me and that is fine but how many times have you been to Vegas and how many hotels have you stayed in???? I've stayed in every strip casino at least twice and YES THEY ARE A DUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do agree that you need to look at pics and find what suits you but I'm not alone in the feeling of the dumpiness of the Luxor, Excalibur or Circus Circus.

But whatever I'm backing out of this one because it's not going to get me anywhere. To the OP good luck wherever you stay and I hope you enjoy wherever that may be!

We loved our stay at the Mirage but voted Venetian-we visited there and would love to stay!!

Wow hydster, calm down! Yes, to a "hotel snob" the Excalibur and Luxor will be a "dump" but to put them in the same class as Circus Circus is just wrong. As I said before, if you are the type of person happy at a Motel 6, a value resort at WDW, or a motel you'll be happy with the Excalibur, Luxor or the *older* hotels. Obviously hydster, you are not that type of person. Thats fine, different strokes and all that jazz.

To the OP: Stay where you can afford. If you can afford the Venetian go for it. If you can afford Excalibur or Luxor go for it. If you are going to spend a lot of time in your room you may want a higher end hotel for the larger rooms. If you're going to use your room to sleep, shower and change clothing then you'll be fine at almost any hotel (Circus Circus has become a bit of a dive, but I won't go near it because I am terrified of clowns).

Remember no matter where you stay you'll be able to enjoy the clubs, casinos, stores and restaurants of every casino in Vegas. And if you're not a hotel snob (it doesn't sound that you are) you will enjoy the hotels considered dumps by the snobs.

I am sorry to say I personally did not enjoy downtown or Fremont street at all. I felt like it was really seedy and couldn't wait to leave. We did eat at a very good steakhouse there.
