Las Vegas hotel reviews

Where is a good family place to stay? Would like to try something with some theming this time. Last time we stayed in a timeshare. Also need something walking distance to the convention center because I'm taking the rental car and the kids to Anaheim for a few days- Poor DH will have to walk to his conference :cool1:

If you stayed at one of the hotels on the monorail system your husband could take that the the convention center. It would be easier than walking, and depending on when you go, he may not want to walk in the heat. The stops for the Monorail are:

* Sahara Station
* Las Vegas Hilton Station
* Las Vegas Convention Center Station
* Harrah's / Imperial Palace Station
* Flamingo / Caesars Palace Station
* Bally's & Paris Las Vegas Station
* MGM Grand Station

I've heard MGM can be good for kids, and if you want theming Caesars and Parid have great theming.

in all seriousness be careful of the topless pools if you are with your family.... they do exist.... (I forget what hotels thay are in.. some of the big ones though)

We have only stayed at the Venetian and I LOVE the room & the public areas! The food is average and priced at what I would expect to pay on vacation. We only ate at the Cafe & at the bakery though. The location is great also.

The only con I can think of is that the slots are VERY tight! I had way better luck at the Aladdin at least to entertain myself for a while, although I did not care for the place itself.

The Orleans (x4) pros, 18 screen movie theater, bowling alley in hotel, best Mexican food in town, spacey rooms (mini suites with sofas and nice large bathrooms); cons, off strip (although, I drive and park in free valet, so I don't need the strip), smokey....the casino area is not well ventilated, not a huge variety of slots (but I don't play much, I watch the cheap movies).

Mirage (x1) loved everything about it, the pool, the dolphins, the tigers, the rooms, the food....very convient to other strip hotels.

Treasure Island (x1) uncomfortable beds, and not as happy with it, though I loved the old pirate theme....reminded me of a certain ride pirate:

Bally's (x2) hated this place, both times, the rooms in the upper part of one of the towers creaks when the wind blows hard, kept me up all night, the second time we stayed in another tower, no creaking, but not much to write home about.

Paris (x1) love the beautiful rooms and atmosphere, but a bit pricey

My brother and his fiancee loved the Venetian, and my mom also likes the Stratosphere, but I've not stayed at either.

MGM is fun for families (pool, restaurants, etc.), so is the Mirage (pool, tigers, dolphins, big fish tank in check in, lobby atrium) and Luxor (Imax, motion sim rides), (of course there's the Excalibur which doesn't impress me, but does others).

Luxor, earlier in the month - had a 3rd floor pyramid room overlooking the airport and valet parking.

Pros
Has a nice LARGE pool around 3 feet deep with very little shade anywhere.
Ventilation in the casino is very good - I wandered around in there all evening with no ill effects.
Room was big, nicely decorated, clean, plenty of towels
Room service was fast and efficient
Check in and bell services people were great -
buffet was good - much better than the Big Kitchen at Bally's
connected to both Mandalay bay and Excaliber by monorail and moving walkways
Accessable - I had an ecv
Entertainment zone seperate from casino so if you had kids, you could get to the one without going near the other

COns
Nathans in the food court had the worst food i've ever eaten
no tub - only shower (but it was a really nice shower)
way down at the south end of the strip
serious lack of shade at the pool

The Luxor is really nice. Although it's huge it's one of the quieter hotels, IMO. The Tower rooms are supposed to be nicer but I loved the Pyramid rooms just for their uniqueness.

Monte Carlo is a great hotel but the walls are thin (thus noisy if you're a light sleeper) and currently the view is of construction. But the location and relatively small size make it fantastic.

No one has mentioned the Rio yet!
We usually stay zat MIL's place when we go to Vegas, but she took the kids one night, and DH and I had a night alone. It was AMAZING!
It was a Thursday night, so I wnat to say it was under $70! for a tower suite. The view was AMAZING!!! You walk in, and floor to ceiling, wall to wall is window overlooking the strip. I can't describe how beautiful it was!
The room was absolutely ENORMOUS!!
There was a small window from the shower out to the main room- maybe so you could see the veiw from the shower?
I can't say much more, we didn't make it past the room and casino!

We've stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton. Good for families. StarTrek theme. Close to the convention center.

Plus, because it is off The Strip, it does not have those sleazy guys on the sidewalk handing out those darn cards with pictures of topless women.

Wife and I are leaving this Friday for a 4 day trip I won to Vegas (including $500 cash)thru work. We are staying at Ceasars Palace. Problem is neither one of us enjoys gambling so we could use some advice on what to do. We are planning on Hoover Dam but thats about it. Could use some dining info and any input about the hotel would be nice. Thanks.

Caesars is a centrally-located lovely hotel. There's plenty to do for non-gamblers. Take in a nice show or two (such as Elton John at Caesars, or one of the many Cirque du Soleil shows). Have some fantastic meals. There's also plenty of free entertainment, like the fountains at the Bellagio hotel.

There is TONS to do in vegas! I have been there alot, several times before I was 21 and I was never bored. Just walking around and looking at things can be amazing, downtown they have the laser show, and the pirate show at TI, walking through ceasars palace,watching the moving statues. Just walking around all the casinos is pretty cool, they all have different themes. And one is just as big and flashy as the next. One place Im surprised no one has mentioned was the Flamingo. I know its old and not as flashy as the new places, but its nice, good buffet with good customer sevice. My husband and I got married there 2 years ago and for a wedding present they upgraded us to a siute the whole time we were there (7 days) and it was in th middle of august. High season, they also went out of there way to make our reception amazing. It was in the buffet, and they gave us a bunch of free champagne, and sparking cider. It was great.

We saw the Blue Man Group when they were at the Luxor (can't remember where they moved to) - it's definitely an experience! And if we go back to Vegas, we'd like to go and see the Cirque du Soleil Beatles themed show (I think it's called "Love").

Blue Man Group has moved to the Venetian.

Has anyone stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Lake Las Vegas? For a Ritz, it has a great price. Any suggestions would be appreciated; thanks.

I saw "Love" last weekend and I thought it was fantastic.

I really enjoyed staying at Paris Las Vegas.

I'm staying at Bally's in January (got a deal, and it connects with my new favorite, Paris) and have tix to see "O" at Bellagio. Looking for a second show.

It sounds like the Hilton is a good choice for a family where Dad is headed to the convention center each day.

Bally's is a good choice -- right across the street from Bellagio and "O".

We stayed one night at the Main Street Station (downtown). We were booked for 3 nights, but one night was one night too many. The front desk staff was horrible, the rooms were really bad, it was just all around a bad vibe in that hotel. We moved to the Luxor the next night which was very nice. Great room, the casino was fun, food was okay. It actually was only about $40 more than the Main Street too.
