I wake this morning feeling so ill I can't get up. This happens a lot but always seems worse on holiday. The walking yesterday was a sure sign I need to stick to the wheelchair from now on and we contemplate changing our plans and staying an extra night so I can rest. A few pills and potions later I start to feel a bit better so we decide to move on but have an easy day. The ride to Zion National Park is fortunately only a short one and backtracks the way we came into Bryce until we make a right turn at Mount Carmel Junction. The drive through the Park itself takes a winding path cut through the mountains with amazing views again . At one point we go thru a long tunnel which is so narrow all traffic has to stop when an R.V. goes thru. At the end of the trail is a large valley with a river running thru and a Visitor Centre of scattered buildings and parking areas to leave vehicles when people transfer to shuttle buses. Unfortunately for us, this is the only way to see the main Canyon and after inquiring we learn that altho the buses take wheelchairs, at each stop we would have a hike of up to a mile along rough paths to see the best views. Sadly it's just out of the question and we have to settle for the Imax Theater which is showing a film of the Canyon and it's history of Settlers and Explorers. This is absolutely fascinating and in the lobby afterwards there is a display of artifacts and props used in the making of the film so we are quite happy. Outside it's VERY hot and the bugs are out. When they see Keith they sharpen their fangs in delight because they find him very tasty so maybe hiking wouldn't have been a great idea anyway. We have a leisurely lunch and buy some silver jewellery for one of our DDs then decide it would be good to make tracks to our next hotel at Mesquite . This proves to be a wise decision because the drive is a lot longer than we'd anticipated following the Virgin River and taking us thru Utah and part of Arizona before reaching Mesquite on the Nevada border. Most of the land we pass thru is very green with small farms and only one large town called St George where I spot the first proper shops since leaving Las Vegas over a week ago. How do women in these parts manage?!!
Mesquite is a small place with nothing much except a few casino hotels and one of these is our home for the next 2 nights. It has a lavish frontage with waterfalls and a lovely pool and spa area at the rear so we'll be very comfortable here. Tomorrow if I feel better we're going back to St. George to shop then a leisurely meal and an early night before driving back to Las Vegas and a different Hotel.
See you tomorrow.

Sorry to hear you weren't well today, Carol, and that you couldn't get to see the best views, but the Imax show sounds facinating.

Getting near to civilisation again, huh?

Shops!

Argh !!!
