Laryngitis

Help! I've had laryngitis for almost a week!!! NO VOICE!!! I did go to the doctor and he said laryngitis is a virus and it just has to run it's course. UGH!!
Everyone says don't talk, but come on...I'm a mom and a teacher! Does anyone have any advice????

Gargle with warm salt water often.

I don't know what's causing yours, but I tend to get laryngitis twice a year and my doctor treats it with a strong decongestant. It seems to help.

How long does yours usually last?

It can last a week or more, but once I get started on the decongestant, it starts to go away after a couple of days.

Do you feel a chest cold with it? Do you feel overly congested?

When I have it, I don't really feel "bad." My chest feels funny, but I'm not coughing and there's nothing "productive."

I feel absolutely fine! My chest feels a little congested, but not bad at all. Do you think taking a decongestant will loosen things up, maybe? What do you recommend and THANKS again for your advice!
I want to be able to talk soon...this gets frustrating after a few days!!!

My doctor always prescribes something pretty strong for me. It always has guifenesen in it, so if you're getting something OTC, look for that. It dries you up fast! I'm not sure all the OTCs that have guifenesen in it, but I think Mucinex does.

I'm a teacher too....& I get it about twice a year. It usually lasts 1-2 weeks for me. I try to drink o.j. by the gallon when I get it. I guess it doesn't help or I wouldn't have the laryngitis for such a long time.

I teach 4th graders, so I had a few very difficult days! I took Thurs. & Fri. off because you can do no voice for a couple of days, but you can't expect the kids to deal with that for longer!!!
Thank God my voice is starting to come back!
