Larrys Wonderful World Trip Report Day 6.
Dear Friend,
Well good morning, I got up at six fifteen, not being a great sleeper, everyone else is asleep as I type this little correspondence to you, recovering from the effects of Bad Monday, but you know me, keen to scour the world for information to entertain you via my Trip Report and you cant do that in bed.
So I decided a little diet cheating was in order this morning and I went down with Refillable in hand to the food court and got myself a nice traditional hot chock which I so enjoyed. Sometimes you have to look after the brain and hang the body. I am so not allowed to drink this I shall have to spend the day, avoiding all sugar totally, of any form to pay for it. (Pleasure Pain principal rearing its ugly head again, as you know the price of joy is angst.)
Well after the consumption of the illicit contraband, I decided to go to the lobby and look at the artefacts in the show cases along the wall opposite the check in desks. They are in sections from the fifties to the nineties, showing articles of Popular Culture from each decade of the 20th Century. (Hence Pop Century Oh you knew that sorry!) Anyway the items go from a packet of Jack and Jill Gelatine Desert Just the thing for Ed today as his recovery food, to an album by the Spice Girls, Girl Power indeed.
Well a couple of things caught my eye, the first things that I remember were of course the Moon Landings and the Beatles, I was a bit miffed when I found out that the Beatles played a gig in Huddersfield once and my parents hadnt taken me to it. Ok I would have been seven or something but I mean what kind of excuse is that? Then there was some stuff from the seventies, a Barry Manilow Album, now, this is relevant to this trip report, because I bought a copy of his greatest Hits album on the drive from Tain to Aberdeen Airport, so there is nothing like me being up to date with modern trends in popular music. It could have been worse it could have been the spice girls, (actually no need, I already have those!!!)
Now I thought of you in the nineties section, there was this Goth Red PVC outfit I thought you might look great in, go check it out next time you are in the Pop Century Resort Lobby. Now if you hear that Barry, who posts comments on the TRs quite a bit, is reading this TR can you point out to him that I dont mean him, it could lead to terrible miss understandings.
Well thats it for now, Today is going to be a quiet morning in Epcot.
And we did go to Epcot aiming to be there just after park opening. Please dont tell my friend Sue but I drove to the Boardwalk and flashed my DVC landyard, (I bet she doesnt know how I got one of those) and I got right in, without all the trauma of last year when I didnt have Photo ID card. Fortunately the guard didnt say welcome home or I would have felt a bit of a fraud.
The walk from the Boardwalk to the International Gateway was so pleasant it was perfect weather, we chatted briefly to a Cast Member who was supervising the erection of a Marquee for a party tonight on the little bit of land, next to the Gateway Guest Services, which looks like it used to be a tram or bus stop now unused. So if you were invited to the party I hope it was fun, and if so how come you never invited me.
We strolled gently through the gate way, around the UK and Canada to the living seas, stopping to have some fun with some gardeners getting things ready for the Flower Festival. As you know Ed was not very well yesterday, and he was still a bit fragile this morning, so we decided to have a very quite and easy day today. (He got much better later in the day, having had two bowls of soup, so much so that we let him go to Disney Quest with Greg in the afternoon.)
So we did the living seas, in one of my old TRs you will have read that the best that I could muster for the Living Seas was a comment that it was worthy but dull. However, today I really enjoyed the hour that we spent in there. The Finding Nemo stuff was great, we did photos outside the entrance with the new shiny metallic charactors. Yes I found Nemo very easily thank you. Then we spent a long time looking at the clown fish etc, in the special section. Greg Loves Rays and there were loads of them there, small but very cool creatures. My favourite was the Jellyfish, which as you know are not Fish or made from Jelly, but they are graceful and fascinating.
Greg and I also watched the fish being fed in the big tank, the rays again were really interesting, but also there was the diver spreading food behind him and being followed by three thousand hungry fish. I would not go in that tank for all the tea in china, but I may be brave enough to do Shark Reef tomorrow at Typhoon Lagoon, I am prepared to overcome my (severe) fish phobia for you in order to provide an entertaining read, dear friend. What shelling prawns and swimming with fish, I will be visiting a butterfly farm next!
We then went to see the Manatees being fed, these are wonderful gentle creatures, much like yourself. One of them had a very damaged tail, which was sad to see, but you can shock yourself with realising just how much pleasure you can get from a big animal eating a lettuce.
Which brings us to the next attraction, a brief stroll away and we went to the land where we did Its a small lettuce but after the Lion King Environmental Film, which is more fun than I imagined, that Simba can certainly roar. We fast passed IASL (Living with the Land, for those readers that you might pass the report to that have no idea what I am on about.) I find this amusing, as far as I remember, there was absoloutely no one ever going on this ride, and then they introduce Fastpass and it has an whopping great bid queue, the whole time now. Like Oh Martha, look this one has a fastpass machine it must be good, we dont want to miss this one Anyway it was good, and I enjoyed it, the guy pointed out the Hanging Gourd Room, and I couldnt help but wonder if it was The Hanging Gourd Room of Babylon! And I was certain that the long thin gourds growing, was part of the secret technology you Americans use to grow baseball bats.
Well by then it was lunch time, and I was on a health kick. So whilst we were waiting for the cafés to open, I found a route, (Root not Rowt, by the way! ) including the stairs where I could do some indoor walking to burn calories and to pass the time, I did about 15 circuits and got my heartbeat up nicely. Then we had a dinner of soup, for us all, eating in sympathy with Ed. Also splitting an Italian Sub, ( I know -you never knew they had a navy!) and a Tuna Sandwich, (Which had evil celery mixed in that I had to delicately pick out.) Anyway, nice lunch.
Then we went to chill out in Innoventions, Jill and Ed went to do Test Track Single Riders Line, Ed did some computer games and I did the Home Cinema thingy, sponsored by Lutron Home Dimmer Lighting, and there was a positively boring lecture of dimmer switches, by Lutron, who were mentioned 204 times, in a bout of Lutronmania. Anyway the visit was a tribute to the attraction that made me think of the idea of a home cinema in the first place, I have to admit mine isnt as good as the Disney one, but it aint bad.
Then I went with Jill for a shotty at the Single Riders Line for Test Track, 7 minutes, not bad at all. (Including Pre show Lets throw in a few surprise tests . No 7!!!!) Anyway, the down side being the bleeding ride broke down for ages in the middle of my go, which rather detracts from the experience, so I still need to do it again, hopefully this time un-molested by mechanical problems.
We had a quick go on Journey into your Imagination, which had a line!!! I photographed it in case no one believes me, if you want a copy just ask. I like Dr Nigel Channing, he is a cool dude.
Well that was it, I was getting very tired by then, but determined to keep my diet on track, so we walked the wrong way around World Showcase back to the car at the Boardwalk. Stopping for an 18 minute break to see Reflections of France, this is very romantic music, and it makes you think of the one you love.
Well after all the walking and excitement of Finding Nemo, it was time for an afternoon nap, I had gotten up at six ish, after all. I slept until five then we went downtown to Disney Quest to have a Dog and cheese fries, (You cant expect me to have two healthy meals in one day now can you?) We did Pirates of the Caribbean Buccaneer Gold and whooped that bad old Pirates ship and got a good score.
Then it was time for a visit to the Adventures Club, but only for some time in the Foyer, and the Mask Room, we bumped into Leesa, Sues Friend and said Hi for a couple of moments. Then we did one show at the Comedy Wearhouse. Which had a great Harry Potter Sketch, and a fantastic cast, everyone being an actor we like. I even went mad and had a beer!!
Well that was about it for today, Will you tell everyone, who posted comments on Radp or Disboards about Ed Thanks, he is much better now, and I told him that lots of people in cyber land, wished him well.
Typhoon Lagoon Tomorrow, prepare yourself for Larry with few clothes on, the White Monster from the Lagoon! Not a pretty sight, be assured.
Cheers Larry.
