Larry’s Wonderful World Trip Report Day 10.

Saturday 3rd April 2004.

Dear Friend.

Well today was no exception to the pattern of the trip, I was up at the crack of dawn to hear the **** crowing and the birds singing, and all was well on the farm. I went for my usual morning walk at around six thirty, I didn’t chat to anyone today so it wasn’t as much fun as some of the days have been, but I did manage to get a little exercise and I had a nice drink in the food court.

I was the first to sort out myself out, ready to go, to the bargain sale. There is a bit of a theme in my head today, which is a Dickensian, “Tale of Two Disney’s”. There are two sides to Disney, it strikes me, the “normal” and the alternative, I shall try to hint as to what I mean as the day goes on, but thinking about it, I actually have very little idea myself, so don’t worry about it if you don’t understand what I am thinking.

The first item on the agenda after a toasted English Muffin in the Food Court, was meeting up with Sue Holland, I’m sure that you and most of your friends who read this trip report will know of Sue, she is a great trip report writer, and I have known her for about five years now, we first met in 2000, and we have spent some time with her every time we have been in the world since. Sue is also in Pop Century, and she heard form a cyber friend, that there was a Disney Liquidation Sale, (Though I’m not sure how a solvent company, has a liquidation sale, but I’m not much of an accountant, so I may be wrong.) Anyway that is what they called it, and it was in the Celebration Gym, today and tomorrow, so it is not too late to pop on down and grab yourself a bargain! It was kind of what we Brits would call a Jumble Sale, I guess Yard Sale is the nearest equivalent in USA speak.

It wasn’t a very big Gym, but it was packed with Disney Stuff, and some non Disney Stuff too. But 80% Disney. There was 70% off the park prices, it was mainly 2003 merchandise, T-shirts and Photo Albums, that kinda thing. There was also some actual art stuff, cells and the like, way too expensive for me. (Even with a discount.) Having said that, we picked up some stuff. A Golf Jacket, which should have been ninety bucks for twenty eight, some T-shirts and I picked out some things to try to sell on Ebay, just to see how it goes. Two diver Mickeys, and three Christmas Mickeys, (I shall keep them until November) I also picked up two, Mary Poppins Collector Coins. Do you remember how coins/medals were going to be the new pins. Well out of a limited edition, 2500, I bought two of the MP coins, and they were numbered 9 and 10, so you can see they sold really well, they were $22 per piece and I picked them up for three bucks each, so not much chance of going bankrupt even if they don’t sell on ebay. (Which they will because you can sell anything on ebay, I know I have.)

I had visions of at least fifty ships between China and Florida, at anyone time bringing this “merchandise” to WDW, and most of it probably gets sold in the parks, but some isn’t that popular, and it gets sent to Character Premier and some ends up in a gym, in Celebration. I think the same thing might happen to Cast Members too, because the woman who served me was really grumpy, and I though she might have been sent to the Jumble sale as a punishment for being naughty in the real WDW.

Well, we then moved on to Epcot, via a trip back to put stuff in the rooms. At Epcot we went in through the International Gateway and as I had two DVC members in the car with me, I wasn’t cheating for once. (It just isn’t fun if it is legal!) And we had a very pleasant walk from the Beach Club to spaceship earth, but it had a line, so we skipped it and walked slowly back to Mexico, where we did the Rivers of Time, (IASB) and we had a front row seat, so we didn’t miss any of the action on the ride, as there actually isn’t any action anyway, it wouldn’t matter if we sat on the back row and read a book, but I digress.

Then we decided as there was twenty minutes to our priority seating, at LeCellier, were we were meeting Kim, Tom and the three young men, Chris, Greg and Edward.. We would perambulate the park in a pleasant if brisk manner, in order to pass the time and burn 75 calories, which equates to two inch of sour bread stick. And as I ate 8 inches of it, I should have walked around world show case four times. Anyway the gang met up for it’s “Magical Gathering”, and we tucked into a nice meal. The topic of conversation meandered around many subjects but one of them that sticks in mind is the subject of Leanne’s Book, you may know that Leanne has been a friend for some time and has visited Scotland several times and has visited us in our humble abode in Tain. Well being the clever gal that she is, she has had a book published recently and it is about Scottish History, a romance, and I am assured that it is a Hot Piece of Writing, and as she gave us a copy, it is only right and proper to plug the book unashamedly in the hope that you will visit her web page and decide if the tome is for you. And by the look of the thing, it is one big tome. I think they had to upgrade the suspension on their car, just to put two copies in the boot.

Anyway the web page is www.leanneburroghs.com

Well we had a nice lunch, I had the cheddar cheese soup and a steak burger, with the most strange Potato salad, (though tasty). It is a tradition which we have developed in the past few years and long may it continue. (Who needs Disney to organise Magical Gatherings, ain’t they heard of friendship and the internet?)

Well after lunch we decided to split up the gang, and I decided on some Larry time, I did a couple of emails and I chatted briefly to Stacey who reads some of the silly stuff I write for you. Then I used the remainder of my Larry time to sleep for almost three hours. Kiptastic.

When I woke up it was time to go and meet Sue for a trip to the Magic Kingdom to see Wishes, the new night time firework show. So we got on a bus, which was full, so half asleep like an tired chimp I hung on to the rails of the bus, and semi consciously I made it to the MK.

There was a little time before meeting the rest of the gang, so Jill and I went and watched the cartoons in the cinema in the camera care centre. Interestingly the cartoon we watched was almost the same plot as Mickey’s Philarmagic, and it was from 1935, - Band Concert. Mickey is conducting an musical ensemble, and Donald gets in the way and caused chaos. So afterwards we went to see Mickey’s Philarmagic, and it was much the same plot, with a great big screen, and great effects and a wonderful Ariel, who puts her arms out to embrace me. Everyone thinks I am so sad as I have an Ariel Obsession. (And the paradox of me being terrified of fish, is often commented upon.) The crowd was very big tonight, and Sue and I had one of those little chats us Internet folk get upto, about there being two Disneys the one you are in control of, and the one you are not. This was the one we were not in control of, except we had chosen to do it, knowing how grim it would be.

Well after about 25 minutes we go to see the show and it is good, very good. The best 3D film in the parks.

We then went for a ride on It’s a Small World, yes Leanne finally got me on it with her. She and Tom were sat in a row behind the rest of the gang, They really like to snook up close on these dark rides!!!

We then went for tea at Cosmic Rays, and I photographed Sonny Eclipse to send to Kevin Rushforth later, he is a big fan. I wasn’t that hungry so I just had some corn dogs and fries and a pile of Mushrooms and Onions from the fixings bar. We waited until Spectromagic had cleared Main Street and headed to the Rose Garden to see wishes the new firework display.

It has very good fireworks and a nice feel good soundtrack, I really enjoyed it and the rose garden in front of the castle is a nice place to see it from. It almost felt like a private party. The crowd was big getting out and we were in a queue for the bus to Pop Cent which took four busses to get us on. (And half an hour) so it was 50 minutes from last firework to key in door of our room.

Well that is it for now, MGM in the morning.

Thanks for reading.

See you tomorrow, Remember, the clocks go back tonight.

Cheers Larry.
Your Pal in Scotland.

It sounds like you had a great visit with your cyber friends. I enjoyed reading about it.

Larry,
Sounds like you needed that 3 hr. nap from all those early morning walks!

BTW your link is wrong for the website. It's
www.leanneburroughs.com
I checked it out because I love a steamy romance!
Oh no, now I have another favorite author! Just bought the book after reading her excerpts from chapters 2 and 3!
