Large Point Rental Question

Newbie here. So I am sorry for any questions that seem redundant. And please move my question if it is in the wrong area.

I have a large group of family members that are looking to me since I am the Disney nut in the group to make a reservation for over NYE (hopefully) of 2013. The group is made up of 15 people. 8 "true" adults, 2 ages 11-18, and 5 ages 3-10. None under age 3. With that being said, 2 of the adults are my parents and they are being very persistent that we stay in one "room/house".

I have rented DVC points before for my family of 3 successfully and am VERY pleased with everything, and will soon be doing the same with an upcoming wedding down at Disney but renting a GRAND VILLA and possibly putting 15 people into is is out of my area of expertise!

I would appreciate your input on this particular subject. Specifically, if getting 15 people into a Grand villa will be okay. Will we be able to rent 7 nights worth of points to get a grand villa and when we should rent the points?

I believe the max occupancy on all of the GVs is only 12.

Your best bet with DVC would be two 2 BR units. But that is not your mothers wish. Cheaper may be an off site house rental. I'm sure you could find a large multi BR house that could accommodate your whole party.

Although I know this is not an answer to the question but OVERNIGHT guests MAX occ is 12 people but holding an event in a Grand Villa for a few plus hours CAN BE MORE than 12 people! Just a little FYI if you didn't already know!

There's no single room or villa on Disney property that will hold your entire group. As PPs have said, the most Disney will allow in a GV would be 12.

So, your alternatives would be to split your group into multiple villas, or to find a house to rent off property.

There are a couple of complicating factors that would make me opt for the offsite house rather than a GV + a studio, or GV + one bedroom.

1) There are not a lot of GVs, and NYE is one of the busiest days of the year for DVC bookings. An owner will need to call for your reservation right at the 11 month window, which I believe would be this Thursday.

2) Seven days in a grand villa over the holidays (Premier Season) would range from 615 points at OKW to 1287 points at BLT. The odds of your finding a single owner with that many points to rent in the next few days are slim to none. So, you'd need to work with multiple owners, having one owner book a day or two of your vacation, another one book the next day or two, and so on. Again, very tough to put that together on short notice.

You can split the group into two 2 bedroom villas, but even that will require a whole lotta points that week, and probably multiple owners.

If you do decide to attempt this, I'd strongly suggest working with a broker like DVC By Request, who can help you coordinate the multiple bookings you'll likely need.

That is very high poin cost time of year & very popular with DVC MEMBERS- that means may not be availability for rentals.
Looking at at least 650-850 pts for 1 week or $8500 to$ 11000 at $13/pt.

With that many people - it definitely isn't worth your time or money to bother with DVC. You are far better off going with one of the many companies in the Orlando area that rents HOMES - full scale homes at 4-5 bedrooms, swimming pool AT the house, and full room for dining for that many.

Renting enough points is pretty much insane in terms of price and ability - for a Grand Villa is nearly impossible.

Impossible... no - but a total hassle that isn't worth the time or the money.

Plus, with the logistics of that many people - I really suggest using a travel agent - otherwise, people won't be speaking to you by next Christmas! HAHA

Two THV's for your group makeup might be a nice alternative if you didn't mind being in a little more "remote" location. But you'd still need to find one or probably two SSR owners quickly with points to rent.

Isn't staying off property for that week risky though? If a park/parks reach capacity before you arrive for the day, you might be prevented from entering. I wouldn't want to take a chance of that for a big family event. I've never experienced that myself, but have heard of others it happened to.

We took our family vacation this past June with 15 people, ages 7 months to 64 years! We stayed in (2) 2BR villas at OKW and they were side-by-side. As PP's have already mentioned, there are ZERO onsite options for 15 people in one unit. You will need at least 2 reservations but Member Services can "link" them by noting them as "travelling with xxxx". This way, they know that you are one party in multiple villas and they will do everything they can to keep you together.

Here's a couple suggestions:

1) Book a standard and a savanna view 2BR at AKV Jambo house. These rooms are on opposite sides of the hallway so you should be very close together. We did this in 2010 with my parents. We had a savanna studio and they had the standard and they were right across the hall from us. Although the 2BR's at Kidani are larger and have the extra bathroom, I am not certain how well the "across the hall" would work...it should, in theory, but I don't have enough knowledge of the layout...LisaS should know.

2) Book 2 2BR's at OKW...they are HUGE! You could end up one above the other (the buildings are 2-3 floors) or you could be right next to each other like we were.

3) Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think the "across the hall" should work at BLT also if a lake view and TPV are booked.
