Our group is celebrating my father’s 65th birthday on the cruise and thought it would be fun to eat at Palo to celebrate the occasion. We will have 8 adults across 4 staterooms. Is this a doable request? Plus, we are first time cruisers so we will be booking later than everyone else.

Thanks for the help!

If you can’t get a reservation for all 8 at the same time in advance book the time as close as you can (maybe 4 at 8:00 and 4 at 8:15) and then the day you board there will be an area (usually one of the restaurants) to make dining changes. They will be able to adjust it for you.

As soon as you enter the cruise terminal to check in, ask one of the cast members (CM) for a copy of the Navigator . The location for changing dining will be listed. Then ask where the place is located relative to stepping on the ship. Hustle to that location.

It doesn't hurt to try. Over the past months I've seen reports of people being able to get Palo reservations 4-6 weeks before sailing, and also people who are Gold saying that it was full before they had a chance to make reservations. Hopefully you'll get lucky.

They typically hold back some reservation slots for people to book on embarkation day. They do have a room available for larger parties, as I think 6 is the most a regular table can hold although it may be 8.

Dinner should be easy to get reservations they serve dinner every night. Brunch is harder because they only serve brunch on sea days
** on the 3 day cruises without a sea day they serve brunch on the Nassau day

They have a large round table that seats 8 for dinner that is placed in the same area as the buffet is for lunch.

Thank you all for the tips! Looks like I will see what happens when I log in online and if that doesn’t work, try my luck on embarkation day.

At least it sounds like a table that big isn’t a definite no. I have hope. :)

Yes, it's possible. We had 8 people/4 staterooms who all booked at different times. We ended up with 4 of us booked at one table, another couple booked at the same time at a table for 2 and then another couple who booked much later and got a table for 2 at about 15 minutes later. I can't remember if we went to Palo or to the session that they have on the first day to see if we could consolidate. We ended up in the private room (this was the Magic) for all 8 of us. They weren't able to do that for us for the brunch, but they seated us at one table for 6 with a table for 2 beside it.

Thank you!

We will be on the Dream and a private room would be very nice. Do they have that in the Dream as well? Is that something to request or does it just happen sometimes?

And, would they do something special for my dad’s birthday? Not sure what - even just a candle would be great!!

Same set up for Palo on the Dream & Fantasy. But it's not really a private room, more of an alcove separate from the rest of the room. And typically for really large parties.

On the Magic class, it's a separate room

@PrincessShmoo Thank you for the photo!! That table is rather large for our party. :)

I’ll be happy with whatever we can get together. I’ll just keep trying - even once we get on the ship. We’ll see what happens.

Thanks so much for all the tips!

I don't recall whether I saw larger (8 top) tables in the main room on the Dream or Fantasy, but I know I've seen an 8 top and a 10 top on the Magic:

We were on the Fantasy in October with a party of 8. We called DCL and they let us know parties larger than 6 can not be booked online. They told us to get everyone a reservation around the same time and then get changed to one table on the ship. We did this the first day at the location on the navigator and had a table for 8 for both brunch and dinner.

Hey everyone - quick follow up!

I went in to book our brunch tonight, but it was sold out! I’m going to keep checking as we really wanted brunch over dinner.

I had a hard time finding 2 tables of 4 at any time or date for dinner. (And it’s also hard to check without canceling previous reservations.) I was able to get tables of two at an early dinner time that would work. I plan to go on embarkation day to combine the tables. Do you think that will still work?

I’m wanting to combine 4 tables of 2... is it possible?

Edited to better explain my question... it was late when I typed it the first time! ;)

There is a request form you can fill out and email to them for the large group table. Call DCL and ask them where to locate it. They usually have an answer for you in a day or two. If I can find the form I’ll link it here.

Thanks for the help!

Hmm, I wrote in my previous post about the large table and the form you can request it with, but your quote is the only thing that seemed to make it on the board. Here is the link to the request for a large dining party. https://wdpromedia.disney.go.com/me...es/palo-restaurant/PaloRequestForm_102317.pdf
You didn’t mention which ship you were on in your OP, but the table in that picture is not that big on the Magic and the Wonder. We had 7 adults at the table on the Magic and it was perfect. The table on the Dream class is much bigger.

Thank you so much for the link! Unfortunately, we are on the Dream and need a party of 10 to reserve the larger room. I assume that the number in your party is a hard rule.... anyone know?

I think I might call DCL today and ask them what they think I should do. I’ll report back what I find out. :)
