Large brush fire near Disney

Tis the dry season and a couple counties in Central FL have enacted burn bans.

I remember once being at ROR pool, and having ash falling on us. You could see the smoke and the copters flying back and forth over us to put it out. I hope the people with asthma and such do Ok.

3:48 pm Live update right now on the live feed.

350 acres, 55% contained, bulldozers, and helicopter on scene making water drops. Investigation ongoing.

Gusty winds are a factor in the fire.

All dozers are on right flank, south side of fire, making a fire line.

Nothing on the left flank, because of the wind direction. Come back to left flank, later.

Burned into [something] swamp, which is holding the fire.

This type of fire isn't that uncommon.

Has not crossed Shingle Creek, so hotels north of that are not in evacuation mode.

All inhabited areas are considered safe, no active evacuations in any areas, including theme parks.

No structural damage reported.

Sorry for the note method, above, I was typing as they were talking, so everything gets very fragmented.

The fire started at 11:15, by the time fire crews got to the scene, it was a 20 acre fire. Orange County Fire had used two bulldozers to contain the fire, but the fire got past them. The bulldozers were reassigned farther away, and now there are eight, trying to remove dry brush ahead of the fire. There is also a helicopter dropping 300 gallons of water at a time over the fire to slow it down.

These types of fires aren't that uncommon to central Florida, especially this time of year, as it is the dry season. But the faster than normal winds caused this particular fire to spread very quickly.

There were evacuations this morning, but the inhabited areas are where the fire crews worked on, first, to prevent the spread of the fire to those areas, and that is where most of the containment is.

We've been watching this, too. First saw the big plumes of smoke from MK this morning, and we can see it from our deck at the Poly - almost looks like it's coming from Space with how big it is. Hope everyone is ok.

Looking at the map, this seems to be right across the interstate from Disney Springs - is that right? We were planning on heading there for dinner, but now I'm wondering if we should switch up our plans for tonight and stay away so as to not contribute to what will likely be a lot for locals to deal with.

I went to Sea World earlier today and I'm currently at Epcot,I took I Drive to 536 to get to Epcot, the fire seemed to be in the area southeast of I Drive between the Vineland outlets and the Caribe Royale hotel.

Does anyone know if the Caribe Royale is downwind of the fire or are the outlets in danger?

We actually live streamed the fire near Disney. It was crazy seeing the helicopters pick up water near us and drop on the fire! Here is a link to the video:

This is the first thing I thought of. My daughters' asthma always flares up at Disney anyhow, this would possibly keep us inside for a couple days with both of them on 8-10 nebulizer treatments a day. :crazy2:
Hope all the asthmatics there are doing OK - is Disney currently upwind or downwind of this?

IMG_9891.JPG IMG_9895.JPG We got here wednesday. This is the second day in a row there has been a fire here. These are the photos taken from Epcot and Disney springs areas.

Florida is having a unique dry spell which they haven't had much rain.

Brush fires this time of year are very common,we're in dry season and some areas have been getting even less rain than what is normal for dry season.Today was also pretty windy and that also may trigger a brush fire, the temperatures have also been all over the place,it was in the 80s and 90's a few days ago feeling like summer,Orlando broke the previous record on Wednesday of 91 as it hit 96 degrees, then a cold front came through that night that did bring rain and storms to the south of Orlando but not to Orlando and tonight the lows are in the 40's,today was a gorgeous, near perfect day aside from the big cloud of smoke in the distance.
