Laptop/TV Cable

Any idea what sort of cable I need to get to hook my laptop up to my TV?

I have no idea what it's officially called, but we use a really old cable that we used for the monitor when we had a big ol' desktop.

Does that mean it's called a monitor cable

The TV just needs to have a monitor connection at the back of it as far as I know

Some newer laptops have HDMI connectors to link to HD/HD Ready TVs, if not you need a 15-pin VGA monitor lead.

It varies quite a lot from laptop to laptop (DVI,Mini DVI, display port, mini display port, HDMI......) - if you could post the model that you've got then it would give a better idea as to what you'll need

I only got the laptop last week. Its an ASUS, A52F.

Looking at the specifications for your laptop you have a HDMI socket - so if your TV also has one then you should be able to buy a HDMI lead and you are good to go.
It also has a VGA port/Mini D-sub 15-pin for external monitor, so you can get a lead for that. If you do it that way you will also need audio leads that will go from your laptop to your TV.

Cheers Kenny, I think the TV does have a HDMI socket.

I used the PC monitor cable tonight as Beth suggested, that worked fine for the picture but no sound went through but that was fine for today.

Yeah, that's the only problem I find. I just plug my speakers into the computer so I can actually hear it. Laptop speakers alone are always too quiet for me.
