Laptop to watch dvd's?

I guess I must be tecnologically challanged but I am not sure what I need to get to watch the DVD on my laptop in the car so not to run down the battery...
1-power adaptor
2- AC/DC convertor
3-DC adaptor

What is the difference? HELP!!

DH says we use a DC to AC converter, called an inverter. We have one from Radio Shack that's 300 watt, dual outlet. It cost about $99. We use our laptop in the car for the kids to watch DVDs. DH says Belken also makes one, but it's a single outlet.

Had to ask DH, cuz I'm the most technically challenged person there is!!

I was thinking of buying my daughter a pre-computer for Christmas when someone suggested I could buy a laptop on ebay for not much more money- probably $100-200. What do you all think and what would I need to look for?
