Laptop question

I'm looking to buy my college-age DD a laptop for Christmas. She is majoring in web design and would like a mac. Anyone know of any good sites to get one at?

If you're looking to buy new or factory refurbished, she qualifies for a student discount from Apple. Check out this link to get an idea about models and prices:

If you have a retail Apple Store in your area you can also get the discount there with some kind of proof of her student status and you can get lots of help with the decision about which laptop to buy.

The Apple store is the best place if she is a student.
I'm not sure if you can get the student discount on refurbished ones or not. I also don't know if they still have discounts on software packages, but when my DD got a powerbook for school, there were discounts on the design programs she needed (I don't remember for sure if those were thru Apple or thru her school).

Also, find out what software she uses and be prepared for a hefty bill. Mac is expensive in the Design area. I am a designer and had my mom (a teacher) purchase my software for the education discount and even so 3 main essential programs ran me over 1K.

Also check with the sales person on the ability/speed of these progrrams, I have been putting off an upgrade but if she is truly doing design it consumes a lot of memory for certain types of projects.
