Laptop Question

woo, a convert! Haha, I hope you end up loving it as much as I love my mac :) If you have any questions about it, you can PM me and I'll try to help! Most things are self-explanatory though.

mickyching-- the problem is that you have a Dell. Out of all the PCs out there, those are probably one of the worst brands & they're not exactly known for their performance capabilities. It sounds like you might have spyware or a virus that your antivirus software isn't detecting. You should take it in to Best Buy's geeksquad or another local computer store for help.

I dislike macs with a fiery passion because they cause me pain for not being compatible with anything PC, and I love my HP. I think the interface is more confusing, not less, but that is because I am a PC user.

That all being said, I am in multimedia journalism and I WISH I had a mac because they have the best programs for it, including Final Cut Pro, Quark XPress, Protools, Photoshop, etc. They work the fastest for digital media and can hold more in their harddrives without slowing down the system.

My heart is with PC, but my head is with Mac.

PrincessAsh, if you ever fully switch over, your heart will be with a Mac as well. Promise.

If you're in digital design/production of any kind, you really should be on a Mac. The (non-professional) software issue can be easily overcome, and often times by a free solution that works just as good (usually better) than the paid-for Windows solution. You may have to do some digging on the web to find what you need as opposed to walking into a big box retail store and find it sitting on a shelf, but your needs can be easily met. One piece of software I strongly suggest for anyone with an Apple laptop is SMCFanControl. It is actually just a preference pane, but it will come in very handy.

I've had my MacBook Pro for over two years and absolutely love it. It is powerful enough as a desktop replacement (15" hi-res screen is more than big enough) that I don't think I would ever consider getting another desktop (unless I would need a Mac Pro). Also, this coming from someone who has been using Windows since the days of 3.1 and DOS, so I was heavily entrenched on the Windows side of things and had no problem switching to the OSX interface.

so get a mac and dual boot. You'd be surprised how quickly you stop using the PC side and start using the mac side. Either way, it's the best of both worlds. That's actually why I switched...that and the fact that Vista sucks.

I have a hp right now and it is a beautiful computer- i have never had any problems with it *knock on wood*
However, I want to go into filmmaking so I am currently in the process of getting myself a Macbook Pro- I am so excited!!! :goodvibes I love that macs have better processors and more "applications" than pc's
I will finally be able to use my HD camera too since my hp doesn't have a good enough processor...
