Hi all

I wonder if anyone has had any bother taking electrical items back and forth to Florida.

I need to take my laptop for emails and to keep kids happy with dvds, PDA for gps when driving and camera for pictures, but all these items I bought through ebay and so do not have receipts.

Will I get bother getting these into the uk, thing is it is quite obvious that the laptop is from uk dues to £ sign on keyboard ect and uk serial number.

I would have to take all these in my hand luggage so would I have bother with current restrictions ?

thanks for any advice as this is really worrying me as we go 1 st December

thanks

Lee

You have no need to worry at all.
This is list of electrical items we took in Aug at height of security problems.
2 laptops, game boy, pda/gps housing, 3 mobile phones, under water camera, compact camera, digi SLR camera with 2 lenses, camcorder, mp3 player, webcam, mouse, along with all the chargers, cables batteries etc.
I have taken this lot every trip for the last 13 years nobdy cares what you take in or out.
Maybe if you had them all in sealed boxes customs might be interested but in general hand luggage you will be fine.

phew!!!! thank goodness for that.

I can chill out and look forward to the holiday now

thanks wayneg

Make sure that they are charged as you may have to turn them on to prove that they are real. Also, you need to consider power when you are out there. Make sure that the plugs/adapters have 100-240v written on them. If they do, then they will work in the US (with appropriate plug adapters). I have also found that for my camera, the best bet is to take rechargable batteries (at least 2000mA ones - any lower rating and they don't last) (you can get universal chargers that work anywhere in the world - I think mine came from Argos). I have found that disposable batteries don't last very long at all in florida (compared to when I use my camera in the UK) - no idea why - maybe it is the heat?

I know what you mean.
I have been able to reduce the electrical volume by buying a HP Ipaq HW9615 which works as a PDA, mobile phone (quad band) TomTom navigator, wifi and bluetooth system as well as running Windows mobile 5 and windows media player 10.
now I am just down to
laptop, two cameras, video camera, pda

Where have the old days gone
where we just had to worry about one camera ,if we were luck
