Laptop on a plane?

That is what I tried to say. The access is free, but the service is not in many airports around the country....

I've used free Wi-fi at PIT, PHX, ABE with no problem, don't have any special service. Just turn on the laptop and hit the wireless button to find a channel.

I really didnt mean to throw you under the bus and I apologize if I did.

Back to laptops on planes. Couple of things to keep in mind.

-If you use it at the gate make sure it is plugged in or have another battery ready.

-At least from JFK to MCO between take off and landing you only get a little over 2 hrs of actual time to use laptop so one battery -should- be enough.

-You cannot access internet with laptop- either cell phone or air card.

-Do not assume that you don't need laptop because of on-board television. In Dec on Song the television system wasnt working or perhaps there is nothing on that interests you. Have dvds ready just in case.

-Almost forgot - When you go through security you must take laptop out of bag and place on belt separately and do not let it out of your sight. This could be tough if you are also watching your wallet and/or small children etc.

Good list, Bob, but I'll add one more:
Put your name and cell phone number prominently on the outside of any laptop you travel with (not on the case, on the laptop itself.)

People are in a hurry at the checkpoints, and it is not unusual to forget your laptop or take someone else's by mistake, as lots of them look very alike. With the name and number on it, you can be called back quickly to claim it if there is a mix-up, and it is less likely that someone will take it by mistake. Most business travelers that I know laminate a business card and attach it to the lid, as that looks professional and gets the job done.
