I was wondering if any-one could help me please.
I will warn you my knowledge of technology is shocking

I have an i pod classic i think it is about 160gb. I also currently had a really slow laptop (about 5 years old) which doesn't hold very much of anything on it.

I am looking to get a new laptop, but i want to make sure that it will hold lots of music and photos as i can't download any more music at the moment for my ipod because my laptop can't hold it (so basically at the moment there is no point in me having an ipod that will hold lots of stuff)

What kind of laptop should i be looking for in terms of memory etc?

I'm not that bothered about using it for films etc, and i have about £500 to spend.

Any suggestions or tips?

I'd definately recommend having a look on Dell, specifically at their Inspiron range. I'm on my second Inspiron (my first one works still, this one is just an upgrade), both my Mom and Great Aunt have just bought one each and my brother has a brand new XPS. We all love them and have never had any problems with Dell laptops, or PCs, whatsoever.

Try looking at their Inspiron 15R basic model, which you can them customise and alter things to your hearts content. That model starts at £399 which gets you 3GB of memory, 320GB hard drive, Windows 7 as standard. If you look at the model that costs £499 that'll get you 4GB memory and 500GB hard drive, with an Intel Core i5-480M processer, at 3M cache and 2.66 Ghz..nothing to sneeze at in my opinion. My first laptop three/four years ago was nowhere near that quality and cost me £900 :-(

Anyway, like I said, its worth having a look. Oh, and if you have quidco they've got 10% cashback I think on it :goodvibes

Sorry, regarding memory I'd say anything over 2GB (2048mb) is good, though I'd probably personally look for something thats 3GB or over (3072mb). My hard drive is 250GB I think and I've nowhere near filled it. Look at the processor as well, I7 is probably one of the best and speed around 2.5GHz. If that confuses you, just look for 'Intel' and then a speed around 2.5Ghz

Good luck!

Thank-you for the help.

This is probably a silly question, but what is the difference between the memory and the hard drive?:confused3

Sorry! Memory is also known as RAM :thumbsup2 It stores everything running, even windows, so the more memory you have the quicker everything will run, the more you can do at the same time etc. Sort of like short time memory :goodvibes

Another cheaper option for you could be to buy an external hard drive & store all you music & photos on that which will free up the storage on your laptop, or it could be an option when buying your new laptop too.

There are loads on the market & quite reasonable too. Also that way if your laptop gets a virus etc you will have you stuff on another source.

This is a good idea. I do need a new laptop though at the moment as mine is definitley about to give up the ghost. Using as a back-up makes sense though.
