Last night I had an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy and I was wondering if anyone that's had this can give a better idea of the healing time. I'm in a little pain, but nothing too bad. The dr said it could take up to two weeks, but I hate the fact that I can't do anything in that time.

Adult DD had this done in 2006 I believe.. The first few days she stayed up here with me at the lake and was in pretty good shape within 7 days or so.. Don't rush your recovery though (and definitely no lifting or pushing a vaccum cleaner!)..

Relax and enjoy the DIS..:goodvibes

That must have been quite a shock for you - having emergency surgery.. Glad it went well..:thumbsup2

I had it done back in 2000; I am an accountant (desk job) and was back to work by the end of the 2nd week. Definitely don't rush it though. Your body will tell you when you're ready. It is surprising how much you use your abdominal muscles for things you really don't realize! Good luck with your recovery!

I had a hysterectomy done this way. It took me 3 days (I was off work for 6 weeks??? not sure why since no cut).

I am a very quick healer....too be honest, the surgery hurt way less than the monthly issues that caused the surgery.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the answers. I really am shocked at the amount of pain. It's funny, I have been told by several people about the vacuuming. I had no idea it used so many stomach muscles. Now that I know when I can I might vacuum a little more and work on my abs! :goodvibes

I had it in January 2008 - I felt okay, but got tired very easily - I think I felt mostly better about 10 days after the surgery.

Second day post surgery and I am feeling better. But my stomach still looks like someone stuck a bike pump in it and filled me up. Any idea when I can expect that to go down? And thanks to everyone for the answers.

My son had an emergency one last Thursday. He was on pain pills till Wednesday. He broke his collar bone 2 years ago, and he said the pain was pretty much equal to that pain. I was surprised, because I had gallbladder surgery done laproscopic and by Monday I was feeling better. He got the okay to go back to work Monday. He was also told not to lift more than 20 lbs.

Hope you feel better.

The more you walk the quicker the gas will go away. Gotta get things "moving" in there, and walking is the best way.

As far as feelign better, historically lap. surgeries are quicker healing, the patient feels better sooner as opposed to later. Keep in mind though that they still are abdominal surgery, so follow the MD's directives as afar as activity, lifitng etc.
