Looking to bring our laptop to download digital pics. Will it fit in the stateroom safe? :confused3

No - the safe is too small. We brought our cable lock with us to use, but never ended up using it. I just put the laptop on a shelf in the closet and no one ever bothered it.

I left mine on the dresser for the whole cruise and it was fine there.

I took mine three times and never had a problem leaving it out. Sometimes I put it in a drawer (out of sight out of mind)

Left mine on the desk and had no problems too! Biggest problem was turning it on BEFORE we went thru security. Mine wasn't charged so I had to quickly charge it and show it to security. Meanwhile, my kids were going crazy 'cuz it delayed our getting on the ship. Take it, it will be safe but have it ready and open as you get to security.

I wouldn't worry too much, but if you are concerned, you should learn how to remove the hard drive from your laptop. On most, it is very simple, and you can keep the hard drive in the safe. I don't know about you, but if my laptop disappeared, I would be significantly more upset about the data than the actual machine, so I have done this in the past in hotels when my laptop wouldn't fit in the safe.

Safe is too small...unless you have a very small laptop. We took ours and left it on the desk the whole cruise...no one ever messed with it. Really the only other person who should be comming into your stateroom is your stateroom host...unless you have some sort of problem that needs to be repaired...or unless you invite others in...or hand your key out (and let them know what room the key is for).

Excellent tip RickW.

Thanks!

I just brought an extra memory stick for the camera. A lot less hassle than taking a laptop through airport security, worrying about it in the cabin, or worrying that it might get damaged.

When do you have to turn on the laptop?? Have never travelled with a laptop before but will be bringing one on the cruise. I know it has to be removed from the case for airport security, but turned on too? And getting on the ship?? Help!

I have not had to turn on my laptop in a very long time to go through Airport Security. As others have mentioned, it does need to come out of the computer bag and put through separate of all other things.

I don't recall what was necessary at DCL, but since I can't remember, I am guessing it was the same as the airport or less.
