Lanyards? What's up with that?

So, ever since DW and I got back from DLRP in July, there's been an item that's bugged me. Pin lanyards. Being from the US and visiting WDW or Disneyland CA several times a year, we are proud of our pin-laiden lanyards which also serve double duty as room/park/fast pass ticket holders. They are treasured momentos of each of our trips together.

HOWEVER, during our first day at DLRP we could not get over the overt stares, giggles, and outright pointing that came from other (obviously non US) guests with respect to our lanyards. It was like we just stepped out of a spaceship and were green! It got to be so bad that I did not wear mine the rest of the week. Subsequently, the only other lanyards we saw during the rest of the week were on US & Canadian guests.

What's up with that???

Thats strange, I always Wear my Lanyard with Pride around the parks and I've never had anything like that

I was going to wear mine in 2 weeks when i go, if people want to laugh let them. They are just jealous.

I've never seen anything like that either - my daughter wears hers all the time we are in DLRP, along with Minnie Ears and often a Disney Princess costume as well - no-one bats an eye .

Strange, I always wear my lanyard at Disneyland Paris and have never had anyone stare at me. In fact I have done more pin trading with CM's at DLRP than I did at Disneyland last month. In fact my only dissapointment with Disneyland was the last of pin trading I saw, I expected to do a lot and didn't. I did make up for it though with the number of pins I bought!!

I didn't really notice anybody pointing, staring or laughing when I went at the end of July and I had a big fluffy crocodile hanging from the bottom of my lanyard and no pins on the strap

I find there isn't much choice of lanyards in DLRP. When we went to the Disney store in NYC there were loads to chose from although the style there seemed to be to purchase a large medal for the end (when in Rome and all that so thats what I did) rather than the old DLRP ones which used to have a plastic pocket on them.

I have nowhere to compare to, but each starter collection of pins at DLRP comes with its own lanyard, and they all appear to be different. I've only seen 5 or 6 individual lanyard designs to buy on their own though.

I think a lot of Europeans think the lanyards are for children. I only stopped wearing mine last time because there were no decent traders to be found and I find them a hastle. I think after 8 years of wearing lanyards I am tired of it. I tend to buy the pins I like, and then carry my traders around in the bag, trading if I find ones I like.

I wore mine everyday and had no negative response. A couple of people asked me questions and then laughed when they realised I wasn't a CM. But that was good laughing.

Good job I'm good with park directions!

A few little kids pointed at my pins, but also in good ways.

I just meant that in NY there were ones with the american flag, mickey heads in fact pretty much every design you could think of. They were thicker than the starter ones for sale at DLRP and just seemed better in some ways. I've got 2 of the old style black ones with a plastic pocket on the end and then a new stars and stripes one with a sorcerers apprentice medal.

Indeed It just seemed so much easier to use the lanyard than carrying the crocodile by hand. If I ever look after Flik, then the first thing I would do is by a lanyard for carrying him around. They would also come in handy for storing pins, although as I only have 2 pins, that's not such a problem for me

Only our kids trade pins but we saw plently of adults with lanyards also.
Can't say I ever noticed people feeling awkward doing pin trading.

My brother who joined us one day remarked that he would have thought that only kids would do it. So maybe new guests were surprised to see adults with pins.

When I've worn my ears I've had s******s from those that don't feel confident to let out their inner child in public. I always smile and wish them a very Mickey day

Have to agree that the choice of lanyards is very poor at DLP- I thought there would have been a greater selection. I was looking for a really nice one for work but was very disappointed with the selection avaliable. Even the starter sets were a bit boring.

too!! Hildasmuriel, I just realised we are checking into the Disneyland hotel on the same day. I wonder if we will end up in oneanothers photos like we did in April!! I'll definately say Hi to you if I see you this time!!

I too tried to find a special one that I could use at work but the choice is limited. I don't get why people would laugh but I guess we europeans have a strange sense of humour!

Maybe I will be lucky and find the perfect lanyard in November.

Still trying to work out the starred word though............
