Lanyards? What's up with that?

:offtopic: too!! Hildasmuriel, I just realised we are checking into the Disneyland hotel on the same day. I wonder if we will end up in oneanothers photos like we did in April!! I'll definately say Hi to you if I see you this time!!

LOL - I noticed that quite a while ago, but couldn't say anything until after dtr's birthday as the trip was a surprise for her and I didn't want her accidently reading about it on here!

Thats so cool. No doubt we will meet at the gate for early entry like last time!! I'll have my parents with me this time though!! Actually staying at the Disneyland hotel we can be there even earlier as we don't have to clear bag check!

Again OT - we cant have a ticker on for that reason as DD doesnt know about our Feb trip - she doesnt read the boards so wouldnt read it but might spot a ticker

 Yay - a lie in.

So thats 8am at the gates instead of 7:30 at bag check like last time then!!

Only joking, I guess we can get to the entrance later than we needed to get to bag check though.

I'd just like to add to the list of people who have not had negative response to wearing pin lanyards. I wear mine with pride, along with my Minne Mouse ears.:cheer2:

I must say though, that we have noticed that in DLRP, there aren't as many people who wear them as in the parks in US. However that said we have always done a great amount of trading with the cast members, though it would seem that there are not huge amounts of trades done during the day as, sometimes when we have approached CMs on our 2nd or 3rd day, they have often passed the comment that there are no new pins on their lanyard since the last time we looked.

We are looking forward to hopefully collecting a few different pins when we visit Hong Kong in November:woohoo:

I think that it is a good reminder that choice of attire (yes, I include lanyards in that) varies around the world. You may also have noticed far fewer adult character clothing than in America as many adults in Europe do not wear them (although Sanda did once post a link to a Belgian Disney inspired couture line I believe)

Last week I was at the Swarovski factory in Wattens, Austria, and the adult Disney jewellry was on a very deep discount (I think that it is more popular in America) Just again different habits and tastes.

Unfortunately I have read several posts over the years here mocking European and Asian fashion choices (not the DLRP boards, but for instance there was some brutal comments about European fashion choice on the Budget Board earlier this summer). The fact is that people around the world have different tastes and make different choices, and that is what makes travel so interesting.

While I would never wear a lanyard for pins, I also won't laugh at your choice to do so.

when I was there in Jan I bought a starter set and began trading. I didnt get one funny look, one point, or one laugh. It just seemed to be the norm. however I did see only one other guest wearing one (it was very quiet whilst we were there) and she was an adult also.

The cast members however seemed more than happy to stop, have a chat, and trade with you. some even had their own personal collections on them to trade.

I did notice some of the thicker bigger lanyards in a shop there so will be investigating this time as my starter lanyard just aint quite big enough now heh. I thought the selection seemed pretty good though.

Personally I don't care what people think when I am in the parks, I wear my Disney shirts, hats (inc Mickey ears) and socks with pride. I just get annoyed with lanyards as they rub the neck, get tangled in my camera strap, and I have lost pins get on and off attractions.

However I get annoyed in the realworld. I'll never forget a few years ago I was passed over for promotion. One of the key reasons they gave me is I wore Disney ties. Once I stopped wearing them, I got my promotion.

I have been told many times people do not take people in disney ties seriously. Personally I think it sucks. Why can people wear stupid football club cuff links and get taken seriously, and then turn around a ridicule me for wearing Jack skellington or Mickey cuff links!!!! Grrrrrr :headache:

Yes, I once posted a link to Donaldson, who used to have Mickeys/ Minnies on every piece they sold. However, starting last summer season, they swapped Mickey for a dog????????????
They gave some BS explanation, but I suspect it all had to do with royalties.

OP, are you sure it was for the lanyard that they were laughing? OK, I have noc lue who you are, I am only going to rely on my "experiences" from the US. Were you wearing matching shirts/ outfits? White socks until your knees? Special caps?
Americans do tend to dress rather different from Europeans while on vacation, could it be that some idiots were pointing out the whole "different" image?
And WHO was laughing? I mean, were it teenagers or adults or kids or???

ETA: In the past, I have gotten mean remarks on my Minnie ears, usually from young guys, ages 15-20. I take the comments from who they come... in this case, I ignore them!

My DD has a lanyard which I sometimes wear - though I will definitely not wear it again while on the TOT - such a weird sensation to feel something so heavy floating up in front of my eyes during the drop!

Her lanyard provided us with a funny moment on our last trip. She didn't know about pin-trading and had a look of real horror on her face when someone asked if she wanted to swap any of her (much thought out, always specially chosen) pins! She takes so long deciding which one she will buy next and the few she already has are precious to her ~ no way she would part with any, lol.

What she doesn't have on it is the plastic cover at the bottom which can hold tickets etc ... what are these called/where could I get one any ideas?

Some of the lanyards at DLRP have medallions on the bottom, but some I think do still have the ticket covers.

My DD is exactly the same with her pins - swap them??? Helloooo? The very idea :lmao:  :rotfl:

I bought mine in Disneyland (California, that is). I haven't seen them in Paris. And I haven't seen mine snce I bought it, but then I also can't find my lanyards :(

I searched all over Disneyland Paris for those plastic attachments for my lanyard and they don't sell them at all. Luckily I went to Disneyland last month so it was the 1st thing I bought!

I think a lot of Europeans think the lanyards are for children. I only stopped wearing mine last time because there were no decent traders to be found and I find them a hastle. I think after 8 years of wearing lanyards I am tired of it. I tend to buy the pins I like, and then carry my traders around in the bag, trading if I find ones I like.
I think the same thing is true for Mickey ears. I was at DLP with my German cousin a few months ago and she was horrified when I bought her Mickey ears to wear. I have a whole collection of them at home (in the U.S.) myself. I noticed at DLP that there were no where near as many people wearing Mickey ears (or other fun hats) as there are at WDW.

I found people looked at my lanyard and pointed but not laughing at it,
Perhaps the reason everyone was looking mine was the fact its a light up flashing one:scared1: but the serious pin traders were all wanting to trade/buy it off me, its a WDW one pinpics number 37658

Nope. Nothing in our choice of attire that I would see as standing out. I wore shorts and a polo shirt most of the time, DW had either shorts and a 'regular' top or a sundress. Nothing out of the ordinary. While we were certainly amusement park / vacation casual, I was amused at the number of women walking around in high heels! Considering how much DW and I walk per day at WDW, high heels did not seem to be an appropriate choice. There's a difference for you...

Ive noticed the high heels as well and thought :scared1:

We never noticed any negative responses when we were wearing our lanyards. A few little kids were pointing at them and saying the characters names while queuing for some rides, but what else is there to do while waiting in line for Crushers Coaster for an hour during a ride break down. I took out a copy of the 2007 Shareholders Report which I picked up earlier at Saloon Mickey and had a read.

We did notice that we were the only guests wearing them for a few days untill we saw a few French fans wearing lanyards at the weekend. But we did a lot of swaps with CM's during our holiday, and I picked up a nice Hong Kong pin.

Ive noticed the high heels as well and thought :scared1:

On our first trip I naively took a pair of high heeled boots which I wore on the plane and a pair of pink moccasin type shoes, to go with my lovely new pink mac, a lot of thought went into my suitcase, I was totally colour co-ordinated when I packed for that trip, I thought that being in Paris every one would be very chic. Needless to say it rained, sleeted, snowed almost constantly for the entire 3 days and the moccasins stayed in the suitcase, most of the time.

I do of course know better now and the heels stay at home. :rotfl:
and I've upgraded the Disney suitcase to include my lanyard(s) my Mickey Mouse coat, my Minnie Mouse gloves, Mickey Mouse bag and until the last trip my beautiful Minnie hat which I lost and most importantly strong sensible shoes. :)
