Lanyards - What's the Scoop?

Now that we're less than 5 weeks from our cruise on July 6th, I have all the picky little questions that will drive me crazy unless I can resolve them.

Lanyards - I want to buy the lanyards on board the Magic. I assume they say DCL or Disney or Magic on them?

Do the DCL lanyards come with a key ring or hook clip to attach the plastic card holders? Do they come with a card holder? Is this card holder waterproof?

Why do others talk about punching a hole in their KTTW card .. because the lanyard doesn't come with the plastic holder?

Should I buy waterproof plastic holders in advance for the DCL lanyards I will buy on board? If so, where can I buy them? Are the ones from WalMart waterproof? Is there a site online where I can order them?

I suspect I've reached the DIS limit on questions within one thread. :D

Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

The lanyards I remember seeing were just a clear plastic envelop-looking thing which people slid their KTTW card in. Don't remember it having a logo...just plain clear. We didn't get one...my DH carried our KTTW cards in his wallet. A lot of people did have them though.

If you want something to keep your KTTW card, photo id, and money dry in when at the beach, you have to get one of those water-proof cases...we got ours for $1 at Toys-Are-Us, but saw them at Wal-Mart. DCL sells them too in the Mickey Mates store for $6(different colors with DCL logo on it)...they have thin ones which would only hold cards and thicker ones which would also hold dollars and change. I ended up buying one because the one I got at Toys-are-us started leaking...I had it a long time though. Someone in line in front of me was returing one she bought on board because of leaking...I think they are a Hit or miss leak thing...I had no problem with the one I bought.

For the days when the ship was at sea, we lived in bathing suits so we stuck our room-key card in the little inside pocket of the shorts. It is not hurt by chlorine water. Passports were locked in the room in the safe.

When we were dressed up on the ship, DH had his card in a pocket and I stuck mine in my bra.

Off the ship on snorkling excursions we had them in the swim shorts inside velcorx-shut pockets. They were not hurt by the salt water either.

While on land excursions or walking around, DH had his in a front pocket of his shorts in a wallet. I had mine in my fanny pack. I use a fanny pack all the time and always have it in the front slightly to the left so neither of us was concerned about pickpockets.

We did not use lanyards or waterproof holders at all.

Have a super trip,

I have the lanyard I bought last year and it has the cruise line logo on it and a plastic case attached to the end to slide your key into - will come in handy now that you need picture ID to get off and on the ship.

Hi
I have a couple of Lime Green Lanyards and Clear Plastic holders that will hold both your KTTW card and photo ID. They are not water proof, however if you have them, other DIS board members ask where you got them. If you want one or a few Email me and I will send you one for a nominal fee to cover mailing.

Go to rei.com---item number 662411 and 662412--but the one that shows the metal clip DOES NOT HAVE the metal clip--we ordered a couple of each--thought the kids could either wear around neck or "clip" to shirt--but the metal clip isn't there--
Hope this helps-

We LOVE the DCL lanyards!!! Not only are they very handy on-board, but they also look really great if at work, if you work at one of those companies that requires you to wear an ID (post 9/11).

While on-board, we wore the lanyards ALL DAY. They are great for carrying your KTTW card, as well as any receipts that you acquire throughout the day. In addition, when we were swimming w/ DS (1 1/2), we would wrap the lanyard around the stroller bar and tuck it out of sight, so our KTTW cards we kept very "safe". Although we wouldn't wear the lanyard in the evenings when we were dressed up, we would still carry them in our hands and place them on the dinner table. Again--handy for carrying that darn room key when you don't have a pocket.

I HIGHLY recommend that you get one! Useful--yet also a great souvenier!
