Lanyards still being handed out?

Pre-Covid they gave them to you at the port rather than leaving them in the stateroom. They should go back to that so you can more easily decline. It was also a nice feeling to get the lanyard and key card upon check in at port. You could see your dining rotation right away, and having the lanyard and card added to the anticipation, during that last hour or minutes before you stepped on the boat.

I also liked getting the lanyard at the terminal instead. Not because I wanted to decline it, but because it signaled the start of the cruise for me. Like putting the lanyard over my head "inducted" me into the Order of This Cruise That's Happening Now.

Sadly, the dining rotation is no longer on the card. But, you can connect to the ship's WiFi in the terminal and see your dining rotation there before boarding the ship.

I tried that twice and was pushed back on. So I usually offer them up via FB. I’d just prefer to say no..
We just leave them in our stateroom at the end of the cruise, along with the luggage tags, sling bags, etc. We even left the backpack cooler thing they gave to platinum on the Wonder. Just could not see a use for it, and it would take up room in the suitcase.

Likewise. Hard for them to push back when you've already disembarked.

We did return our excess DVC lanyards to the DVC desk on the first day, and they were happy to take them.

We have our first cruise coming up in 11 days. Will we get lanyards and a sling bag in our room? If it changes anything, we will be traveling concierge.

Thanks!

No, first time cruisers do not get anything. The lanyards and sling bag are gifts for returning cruisers--lanyards have colors corresponding to each Castaway Club member's level. (You will be a silver member after you complete your first cruise.) But, if you are a DVC member, you can get lanyards from the DVC desk on the ship.

Thanks-seems silly for how much we are paying for this cruise. Will have to find/buy some lanyards to take with us.

They have really cute ones on board! Our daughter prefers the one we bought vs the ones they give out.

While the lanyards are useful, especially for kids, they're not necessary. You can carry the cards around however you'd like. Some people have card holders on their phone case vs wearing a lanyard. But you can definitely find cheap ones ahead of time as well as buying them on board after 6pm when the shops open.

I understand, but Disney uses them as a thank you gift for returning cruisers, just a little perk for cruising with them again. Everyone was a first time cruiser once. One of your concierge perks is the ability to book things before everyone else, including platinum members....and I know you'll have a lot of other perks...just not the Castaway Club member gifts.

Realize my post may have come across as entitled. Just a lot of things to get together for this trip (we are vacationing internationally immediately after-emptied my Marriott point account for the second week) and I would have been happy to check one thing off the list.

By having a non-castaway lanyard you will get extra help offered. It’s their way of knowing that you might need extra help. Offering more directions, sometimes walking you someplace so that you don’t get lost on the way.
